*Robin is mesmerised. Suddenly, something stirs in his brain... he has something that might help.*
Hang on!
*He nods at the spellcasting PhoenixFlame, and pulls from his pocket the once-used and now slightly broken cloth arrow.*
This ought to help... somehow...
*Robin reloads the arrow, points, and shoots.*
Shunk. Swish.
Hosanna!
*Robin's arrow has hit the wall, just below the roof. His aim was a little off, but now there's a sticky bit of cloth hanging, helpfully, just above the open window to Callimpsest's room, inches away from his feet which, due to the effects of the spell, give him the bizarre impression of hanging horizontally.*
Let's hope he has the good fortune to be able to grab the cloth, should her magic not prove enough. On second thoughts... let's pray!
YOU'LL BE FINE, CAMISOLE!
*He crosses his fingers.*

[OOC: Welcome back.]
*Callimpsest edges his foot toward the cloth, wincing at the muscle strain. Before he can make contact, PhoenixFlame's spell wears off, probably cut short by magical interference from the brick. Callimpsest finds himself slowly swinging back to a vertical position.*
Oh! Woooah!
*Soon he is again hanging downward, unsure for how much longer he can hold on.*
Oh, woe!

*Hearing the commotion coming from down the hall, Meliss hurries to the room where it is coming from and sees the rest of the group in there. Through the window, she can see Callimpsest hanging from the brick-thing for dear life. She enters the room slowly*
"Sorry for the delay in joining you all, Red is going through some...changes. I see that infernal object is still causing problems...I do think I have a float spell that could help. Uncle taught it to me shortly before he went off on one of his explorations of who-knows-where. Shall one demonstrate it?"

*Dreslin nods in greeting to Meliss as she enters.*
As PhoenixFlame can confirm, the brick seems determined to interfere with any magic. How exactly does your spell work, under ideal conditions? Not that any spells are ever used under completely ideal conditions, I'd imagine!

"Well, it is supposed to form a path - an invisible path - in the air, over which you can walk until you reach a safe spot. I need to concentrate so that the path forms under Callimpsest's feet and leads into the middle of the room. Once he's there, I just need to speak another word and he will float down the rest of the way, which in this case will only be a few inches. I've used it on myself and it seems to work perfectly well. One just hopes that the object will not make the spell go awry...however, the fact that this spell is from a different realm than this one may work in our favour."

I say go ahead and cast... since we've exhausted all our other options!

*Dreslin looks at Robin on the ground.*
That is true, Robin, for the moment.
*Then he raises his eyes to look at Callimpsest, before turning to Meliss.*
But Callimpsest is refusing to let go of the net. He seems to feel that because the net is imprisoning the brick, letting go would mean losing that advantage... and he could be right. Just for the moment, is there some magic that could relieve his muscle pain? All that gripping must be taking its toll.

*Callimpsest nods.*
Indeed! Else you may all find your thinking time on this matter briskly curtailed!

*Meliss nods at Dreslin in agreement then walks swiftly over to the window. She points at Callimpsest and utters some words in Latin...immediately after she has finished speaking them, a silvery mist starts flowing from her pointing finger and wraps itself around him. It hangs there for a second then appears to be absorbed into his prone form*
"There, how is that? If my spell has worked properly, you should be getting some more strength back and the pain in your muscles easing. As soon as you give permission, I shall cast the float spell"

*Meliss' spell is minor enough not to be disrupted by the brick's own magic. Callimpsest sighs with relief.*
Ah! Much better. As is your Latin compared to your uncle's, if I may say so! Dreslin is correct, however: I still have no intention of unhanding the net, and the trapped troublemaker within it.

Can I suggest something? So far, all your attempts to investigate the brick or rescue Callimpsest have been made individually. Perhaps we should work together.
Firstly, I think we should leave the inn and go back outside. Allowing you in this room has done more harm than good, and I'm sorry for that. Secondly, PhoenixFlame and Meliss: if the two of you could combine your magic somehow, you could cast a spell too strong for the brick to disrupt, and bring Callimpsest down to earth. That way, he can keep holding the net, and he may just bring the brick down with him. Then, the rest of us could use what I believe humans call 'manpower' to keep the brick from floating back up.
Is this worth a try?

Dreslin, that has my support - support being something I can offer only figuratively at this time - but woe betide us if the scheme doesn't work!

"Yes, this idea also has my support. This object is powerful, but the combined spells of two extremely powerful sorceresses surely will not be disrupted by it. If it was possible, I would also ask Red to help in some way but alas...he is in no condition to do that. Perhaps I should summon Smirkenorff, so that if the worst happens and Callimpsest falls, he will land on Smirknorff's back instead of the paving stones."
*She prepares to leave the room*

Post by Young Grimwold on Aug 16, 2008 14:57:12 GMT
*Young Grimwold has finally come outside. As he approaches the area below the brick, he looks at the crowd that is gathering. The spectators include: Marjorie, the marketplace busybody; that fellow who irritates the barmaids in the Heifer by asking them for "Soma-noff Ice" - Murphy, that's his name; Zyssa, one of the barmaids, who is standing apart from the rest of the crowd and looks particularly troubled; Victor Drallop; and assorted guests from the Wolf's Howl Inn. While some look on in worry at Callimpsest's plight, others seem rather amused, to YG's great annoyance. Have they nothing better to do? YG, on the contrary, feels he has nothing worse to do; but loitering in the inn's reception area, he could hear his conscience castigating him for his cowardice, louder and louder, until it almost seemed ready to seize control of his club and beat him with it. What is more, with the exception of selected caves and Dungeon locales, an ogre can only loiter anywhere for so long. YG notices a heap of torn cushions with no stuffing. Then he sees Robin, who for some reason exclaims "Bring it ON!" as YG is approaching. YG walks over to Robin and quietly stands next to him.* That sounds optmistic. *Meanwhile, a light breeze has blown into YG and Dreslin's room. The note that was on YG's bed [OOC: See my July 14th post in this thread] slides off the bed and drifts down onto Malark's shell.*
