[OOC: Continued from Above Ground.] *It is dark. There are other sensations, too. There are steady drips of water, and their sound has a certain echoing ambience to them. There is a musty odour, and the air feels thick, heavy... like breathing soup. But Robin is aware mostly of the dark.* Hello? *His own voice replies to him. Robin doesn't know how far he fell. As far as he is concerned, he fell for a few seconds. He is aware that he is hurt, but not sure how badly. He is standing and nothing seems to be broken, but there is pain. He can't see any light, not even directly above him. Where did he fall to? How long ago - how far away? Without any light, he has no answers. He can't even see himself.* Think, Robert, think. How would you light one of your arrows?*He crouches, hands flying across the floor like skittish spiders. Skimming over a few smooth stones, he finally finds a rough, crude flint nick his fingers. He picks it up, and stumbles around blindly until he walks directly into a wall.* Okay. *He quickly brushes the flint against the stone of the wall. A small spark jumps into life. It is not much, but it is enough to reveal, for a split second, that there is a torch hanging from a bracket a few feet away. Robin feels his way over and strikes the flint again. Eventually, the torch is lit. Much comforted from the light now blazing around him. Robin checks out his situation.* I'm... I'm... *He is underground. This is not his natural territory; he much prefers the open air. He still finds it impossible to divine how long or from whence he fell, but he has a few bruisy cuts. His sword is in its usual place, and seems all right. Some of his arrows are missing... he has about five left in his quiver.* Okay, so where do I go now? Who am I talking to, anyway?*In such an unfamiliar, unsettling territory, the sound of his own voice is a small comfort. Looking around at the place where he has landed, he ascertains his surroundings. He is in a long, low corridor, with walls of stone. It leads off into the darkness in one direction only; all other sides are blocked. There is no immediate danger... or signs of life at all. He feels as wrong-footed as he had been when he first landed in Holmgarth.* Only one way to go, I suppose. *He wrenches the torch from its bracket.* You're coming with me. *He does not have his sword arm free now, but he figures that, should he need to fight, light would be a better ally than steel in this forbidding place. He takes a deep breath, and as he starts to walk off down the corridor, the sound of his heavy footfalls start once again.*

*As he continues to walk, Robin loses track of time. His nerves stop jangling, and after a while he begins to feel almost at peace. His left hand stops twitching, as if to grab his sword, and even his right arm - which is still aloft, holding the torch, feels easier. A small smile plays around his lips, but fails to fully manifest. He still wishes for the open air of the forest, but at least...*
I don't appear to be in imminent danger... yet.
*He has spoken the final word of his thoughts out loud. Nobody was around, and he has the occasional tendency to speak out of turn or pronounce one word without sounding the rest of the thought out.*
...yet...
*An echo. And quite a resonant one. Robin must be in a bigger chamber than he thought. Or has he passed from narrow corridor to big room? He swishes his torch about, but nothing becomes apparent. He needs more light.*
Light?
*Almost instantly, a myriad of torches burst into life, temporarily blinding the Woodsman, who stumbles backwards, hand shielding his eyes to the sudden flare.*
Wha... wha...? That was it? I just has to say "light", and it happened? Why didn't I try that back in the... the...?
*Where is he? He turns around. Yes, he was in a small, dark corridor; the exit from it is behind him by a few feet. And there was a good reason for the echo, too; he is in a room. A large, square room that seems deliberately cut from the rock. There is a huge hole in the middle of the room, so Robin is incredibly glad he stopped walking when he did. The dust and dirt is incredible, but still, signs of human activity, and light! - glorious light! - make this a much better situation for Robin. But still one question bothers him...*
Where... where am I?
*He laughs in spite of himself.*
And what... what do I do now?

*Accompanied by a steady dripping sound, Robin inches carefully, but swiftly, along a wall, his back pressed to it. He is about a metre from the large, square pit, but he's not taking any chances. He's already fallen enough today.*
Okay. So... nothing for me here. What's next?
*He exits the room via a far door. He had a few to choose from, but he chose the one on the right. Not used to travel through portals, Robin expects some discomfort. After a moment of darkness and disorientation, Robin opens his eyes.*
Oh...
*He is in a totally inescapable cave.*
Light!
*Torches light up the cave as best they can. There are no obvious ways in, out, or any features whatsoever.*
Interesting...
*Robin starts to look around. In the previous cavern, on his exit from the room, the torches begin to flicker and die. With a curious flickering of the tongue, and no small amount of effort, the dreaded Kaa emerges from the pit, a small hiss emanating from his mouth, sure he could have sensed something barely a few seconds ago.*

[OOC: Robin is in this room, but there's no wellway or visible doorway.] Okay, so what do I do? *Robin walks around, arms outstretched. Two and a bit lives of adventuring have taught him many things, and although his memories are somewhat garbled, something that's never escaped his mind... if something doesn't appear to be there, it may still be there. Hence, if there's something invisible, he'll find it.* Hmmm... *Half an hour later. He's searched everywhere, touched every bit of wall he can reach. Nothing. He is trapped, and only after realising this, does he start to notice how afraid he actually is.* Uhm, help? *His voice reverberates around the empty stone room, and as he listens to its echo, Robin notices that it's cold as well.* Heeeeelp!*Still nothing. Robin is just short of sitting down and putting his head in his hands to await death by starvation, when he realises that there's one thing he hasn't checked. Walking carefully to what he estimates to be the centre of the room, he pulls an arrow from his quiver and nocks it into his crossbow.* Do my work for me, arrow. *He points it what he assumes to be directly upwards. He knows he can't afford to waste arrows, but this calls for some form of action. With a pull of the trigger, he shoots. The arrow careers into the darkness. He hears no telltale thunk, and after waiting for a while, no arrow returns to the ground.* Right... upwards it is, then. *He's never been too good at this, but if he imagines it's a tree, it may work... Going over to the craggiest wall, he gets as good a hold as he can, and slowly begins to scale it.*

*From somewhere high above, several rocks of various sizes are dropping. With luck, they will all plummet past without hitting Robin. But luck and the Dungeon do not always go hand in hand...*

*Completely out of his depth in these depths, Robin is pleased to see a twinkle of what looks like sunlight high above him. He looks up, expecting to greet the sky after about half an hour's climbing.*
Thank you...
*...and suddenly, the light is extinguished. What's worse, there is the unmistakeable rumbling, crashing sound that only ever equates to falling rubble. It's not coming from below him, and all-too-soon does the hero realise that heavy stones are falling directly towards him, and gaining inertia all the time.*
...God?
*He needs to find some way out... he will not, can not, face falling and battering damage once more, whatever he does.*
I need to... is there any... am I...?
There.
*A small opening in the rock on the other side of the "chimney" he's scaling. No time to cook up something fancy... he just needs to rely on his muscle. The rocks mere feet from him, Robin tenses, and kicks off the wall with a mighty push from his legs. He makes a desperate grab for the wall, and his fingers close around cold stone, dangling from the edge of the ledge.*
Uhn!
*Scrambling madly, he hauls himself up and tumbles forwards into the small opening. Half a second later, the rocks fall past. One of them crashes against where he had been those two seconds ago.*
Huh... huh... huh... huh...
*He is alive, and unhurt... but scared.*
Let's see... hah... let's see Aranel Comamnieh... hah... do that.
*It is only after looking back out at the vertical shaft that he realises the daylight he saw is no longer apparent. Some rubble must have blocked the opening some way along the tunnel. But there is light - an eerie, greenish glow, perhaps; still light, of a sort. And he can't sit in this recession forever.*
Looks like my only way remains up.
*And up he goes.*

*The Dungeon at times is a merciless place. A place where a great wizard will leave a child to the will of immaterialistic goblins for not knowing (or not seeming to know) what sort of animal a flying fox is. The relevance of this is that if Robin, like Merlin, is seeking a bat, he is footsteps away from seeking it no longer. There is more than one in the vicinity. He might hope that they are heavy sleepers; he might also hope that they are not in the least bit poisonous; but the Dungeon, as previously stated, is at times merciless.
Long tale short: bats ahead.*

[OOC: Continued, if it's OK with Shadow, from Where There's a Well...] *When the Opposition blocked up all the wellways, he also stripped them of some of their essential magic: the magic that allowed dungeoneers and other travellers to drop through them and land without emitting a nasty crack or several. That absence of magic could have meant the end for Shadow, were it not for the Feather of Falling that had quietly been placed into her possession. The irksome lass who couldn't keep a pig on a leash might just have saved Shadow's life. Shadow has landed not at the bottom of the wellway but on a ledge some way down. Leading off from the ledge is a tunnel: remnants of the earlier rockfall have obstructed the entrance, but could be cleared with little trouble. From behind these rocks, the apparently steep tunnel is sharing a distant greenish glow - and if Shadow's ears are sharp enough, she may also detect the faint sound of receding footsteps.*

*Shadow quickly discovers the Feather of Falling in her pocket.*
How could I have been so careless? Thanks Clarity.
*She also feels the book she found earlier. She decided to investigate its contents later, as she probably couldn't read it from the bad lighting arrangement. But suddenly, she hears distant footsteps.*
Hello? Who's there?!
*She curses herself for being careless again. If this was someone dangerous, then they'd be well aware of her presence now and would probably seek and destroy her.*

*Robin is climbing up the vertical shaft. While he has not been enjoying this task as such, he is steadily getting used to it, and is gaining ground. He pauses for a moment, takes a few deep breaths, and continues. Up, up, up he climbs, ready for anything....
...well, almost anything.
The sudden curious shout from the adventuring Shadow almost makes him lose his holding for good, and he frantically scrambles his hands until he's sure he's solid against the rock wall.*
What the... Who the devil... Why...?
*He looks up. He can see nothing, except the glimmer of green from beforehand. But it's definitely closer than it was.*

*Some words drift down to Robin. They are very faint, and some are absorbed by the darkness. But some of them come to him. It sounds like...*
You... you'd better be... armed!
I am armed...
*He checks his sword is still there. Of course it is. Upon twisting his head a little, he verifies that his crossbow is there, too. He is armed. Feeling a little better for the unexpected words of caution, he heads up, further towards the light.*

Is he...trying to run? Heh, what a coward.*But suddenly, she realises that the voice had come from beneath her and the sound that seemed to be footprints was getting louder. Shadow blows on another one of her candles, lighting it up and pointing it down into the distance, wanting to find out who it is.* [OOC: And not wanting to edit her post again. ]

[OOC: I think the geography has got a bit muddled here. When I last posted in this thread, I envisaged there being a ledge partway down the cavern which was below the wellway shaft, with a horizontal tunnel leading away from the ledge (and then leading into another vertical shaft), into which Robin had gone - with Shadow later landing on that same ledge where rocks had blocked the tunnel entrance. However, that may have been wrong and/or misleading on my part, and it's now unclear as to what Robin and Shadow's relative positions are. Can we work this out?]

[OOC: The wellway shaft is vertical and very, very long. The ledge that you mention is outside the opening to a horizontal tunnel, out of which emanates a green light - as yet unexplored. The small dip that Robin was previously in is not a tunnel, just an enclave.
Robin is slowly scaling up the same wellway shaft. If Shadow jumped from where she is, she'd fall down past him and almost certainly die from falling, battering and multiple injuries upon hitting the floor, which is about a fifty to a hundred metres away or thereabouts.
As she has the Feather of Falling, she'd be okay by jumping, but she'd take a while to reach the ground, and she'd certainly notice Robin on her way past.]
