Hello. I am planning to add links to old posts, whereby anyone reading old threads can click forward to where the story continues, or back to where it continued from. This will involve modifying people's posts to incorporate the links, and the content of the post itself will not be touched. If any of you objects to this being done to their posts, and/or would rather do it themselves, please let me know within the next few days. There's no great shame in acknowledging that Surrounds' halcyon days are behind it: they may as well be easier to relive.

Fine with me and many thanks. You're right, it is pretty good fun to look back over the old threads and see how a character has developed since they first arrived. I know Coriolis started out as a very strait-laced "Brother Strange" type but nowadays has a lot more of the feline daredevil in him. Being able to link back and forth between threads is also a useful tool for anyone worried about continuity and their own Canon. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to search through the boards to find a detail that happened only a few hours ago in gametime but nearly a YEAR in realtime!

It's scary how long it's been! EDIT I was curious, so looked at how long ago I registered with my Phoenixflame character... 2003! scary how time flies [ModNote: Major apologies, I had a mishap and edited this post. I thought I was making a new post that quoted from this one, but I was modifying this one and hadn't realised. It was extremely careless and I'm very sorry. I've done my best to restore the original text. -YG]

Being able to link back and forth between threads is also a useful tool for anyone worried about continuity and their own Canon. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to search through the boards to find a detail that happened only a few hours ago in gametime but nearly a YEAR in realtime! People probably know by now that I am one such continuity worrier, but you're right that it can be difficult to maintain over long periods of low activity. Character development through forgetfulness: I think I've had a bit of that. I was curious, so looked at how long ago I registered with my Phoenixflame character... 2003! scary how time flies She had of course made her debut earlier that same year at the Knightmare Boarding School. If you look at the Character Profiles board, you'll see that several old profiles have been bumped to the top of Page 1. This is to indicate that I have completed linking for these characters. Each of the profiles now contains a link to the character's first RP thread, and from there you can scroll and click your way through to their most recent (and back again). I plan to do more later in the year. There are hundreds and hundreds more links to be added. In the meantime, enjoy the nostalgia trips.

No worries about the accidental edit YG, accidents happen I just had a look at the old site, I do log in now and again, though it did use to be more to remove spam threads It really has been a fun ride though, and hopefully, we will get more activity. It's not just Surrounds though, with inactivity, many of the boards I used to frequent are either gone, or there isn't much activity on them It's quite sad really... But links make it easier to relive the quests, and also, for anyone that joins that might want to check out other characters as well

I have been pressing on with this mammoth but enjoyable task throughout the year and have now covered over half of the forum's past and present characters (every one from the top of the Character Profiles board down to Motley on Page 3). It's been fascinating to (re)read so many old threads, some of which I missed at the time. There is still so much to do: tackling some of Surrounds' most prolific posters is a daunting prospect!
I would also like to wish all who have participated on the forum in 2011 AD all the best for 2012 AD. A month from now I will have been playing Young Grimwold for 8 years - blimey! Unsurprisingly, AWOL members (and Moderators) have been a major issue for us this year, but I for one will continue to make efforts to ensure that anyone who wants to play here can do so.

After working on this day in and day out for well over a year - yes, that is my trumpet you can hear - the Surrounds stage of this very large project is almost complete. Thank you to those who have supported and complimented my efforts. Along the way I have merged and moved some threads to aid navigation, and I have expanded the project by linking not only between threads, but within many posts referring to past events that would otherwise be buried in old threads: here, for example, where Sir Edmund Locksley confronts Ringmasterrob with a list of his deeds and misdeeds (and obviously the post contains spoilers galore if you haven't followed the whole story up to that point). That one alone took me over half an hour, but luckily I enjoyed doing it! When I'm satisfied that I've done enough, perhaps I will republicise Surrounds on the Knightmare.com Forum and invite people to take a good look at the creativity on display here. You might have noticed that I used the phrase 'the Surrounds stage' above. That is because I have decided to extend the project to cover the Knightmare Boarding School forum, where a number of this forum's characters and plotlines originated, and which I have been tidying anyway (in response to a ProBoards upgrade glitch that duplicated every KMBS thread some years back). There is, then, a great deal left to do, but I am looking at surrender in the same way that Lord Fear did.
