All irregularities will be handled by the forces controlling each dimension....They appear out of nowhere when required, investigating the twists in the fabric of the universe. Transuranic heavy elements may not be used where there is life.No-one knows where the operatives come from, or their ultimate purpose. All they ever notice is their elemental names and icy efficiency. Medium atomic weights are availableShe is Jet, a tall, dark woman in black. He is Mercury, an older, more approachable man in light silver. Gold, Mercury, Copper, Jet, Diamond, Radium and LeadThey have found something in the Knightmare dungeon, something which frightens even them, but for now they concentrate only on their brief: to investigate... and discover. Mercury and Jet have been assigned.[ModNote: The Operatives first appear in Espionage, following a mysterious event described in A Resting Place.]

[OOC: OK, slightly odd characters I grant you, and although they have several rather unusual abilities, an important one for players to know about is that they are telepathic. This has two effects:
1. They will often talk to each other in <triangular brackets>, this is telepathy and usually only they can hear each other, of course, a character hiding any latant telepathy may pick up on some of it, which might be interesting!
2. Mercury is limited to always knowing the name, age and a few small facts about anyone he talks to. Jet, however, is a telepathic specialist. Certainly if she touches a character, or even looks at them intensely, she can imperceptably probe their mind and find out their secrets. Obviously I'm doing this for character effect, not to be nosy ;D so if you'd rather not pm me your characters' secrets could you give me some indication of how Jet should react.... it takes a lot to shock her, but emotions of distaste or pity, or even amusement, will show!
Oh, and to clear up something, I'm afraid that any apparent references to 'Tron 2.0' are entirely unintentional as I've never played it! I think I just chose the wrong names....
My inspiration comes from a different source, and anyone who recognises it who I haven't told gets a virtual coconut!
Now, back to the mystery....]

I'm sorry, but that strikes me as somewhat overpowered for a non-mod character, and quite unfair on the other players.)

[OOC: Hmmmm, OK, can see your point.... Fair enough, there are lots of psychic disturbances in the Knightmare world which interfeare with Jet's powers which cause them to be blocked quite frequently, leaving it up to the player as to how much is revealed to her. However, I'd like to stress that the revelation of a character's secrets was always entirely optional as far as the player was concerned, as a reaction gives me no clues, and in any case the Operatives were unlikely to have reacted to something which was not directly relevant to their investigation, in which case it made good plot sense for it to be revealed in this way... I'm sorry if I caused offence, the intention was to increase the aura of mystery around Jet, not to invade others' privacy ]

OOC: I'm afraid I cannot allow a new character to have that kind of power. This was certainly not cleared with me or a Mod at any point. I'd rather, if possible, that this mind reading lark be something that takes a certain amount of effort to execute and that there are certain restraints on the skill. What you currently have is an example of mild, unintentional power gaming. Please IM me if you are having trouble laying out restrains and I'm sure we can sort a frame out Thanks!

OOC: Hi everyone... After some consideration, I have decided that the tone of the Operatives is not suited to this forum and have decided to withdraw them. I would like to stress that this is not solely due to the very reasonable and understandable complaints received here, but is a general feeling I have had since their arrival that they stray too far from the 'feel' of Knightmare. Unfortunately, reducing Jet's telepathy to the levels suggested would not really fit her character... one perhaps better suited to fiction than interactive roleplay. I'm afraid that this slight tendency to power game is probably due to my experience of roleplaying being far more in the realms of supervisor than player! Fortunately, the Operatives' habit of suddenly vanishing and appearing is useful here, having been drawn to this world to investiagate its dimensional instabilities, they discovered that the thread they were following was erroneus and departed. Soon the world's memory will fade... As to what attracted them here in the first place... well, perhaps Midnight, Mog and Coriolis have the answer, and a dark one at that.... Thanks a lot guys for sharing your plans with me, and I hope you can continue along the same lines as before! Sorry again for causing a caffufle, and once my internet connection is fixed properly I will be back with an old character and a new, but all more suited to Knightmare! Thanks for being understanding.... Hordriss

Oh well, never mind.
And I know the source (an obscure science fiction programme called Sapphire and Steel which I've never watched but saw come 8th, I think, in Channel 4's Top 10 Sci-Fi), so hand over the coconut (I think I also know your source for that: a certain episode of a certain programme involving two magazine editors, one bald and one blonde, the latter also being a Conservative MP).
