*Young Grimwold reaches Ursula, and is relieved to see that the 'bounce' did not immobilise her. Catching his breath, he explains about Hordriss' potion, and the instructions whispered to him by Hordriss.*
...I don't know if we can profit from facing Lord Fear while his spell is active. All I have is my potion, and these weapons; Hordriss, and his resources, may be our best hope.
*YG feels his thread necklace chafing. Is he imagining it?*
Also, I don't know how much time we have left of the battle, before we're all terminated. I don't remember when nightfall last came.
*YG looks up at the perpetual light filtering into the Forest arena, through an audience of hissing foliage, that, in his paranoia, he feels is clamouring for bloodshed. Then he glances over to see Lord Fear, relentlessly approaching and obviously at ease with his magical protection.*
Let me try and fend him off.
*YG has a mirror that he found in Hands' knapsack; he tilts it to catch the light, in the hope of shining it into Lord Fear's eyes and dazzling him so that they can evade him.*

*Lord Fear continues to advance on YG sheilding his eyes while holding his weapon infront of him swing it about trying to knock the mirror away.*

*Ursula listens to Young Grimwold's words, nodding her shaggy head with a grunt of agreement that quickly turns into a growl as Lord Fear grows closer*
*She backs off slightly to let Young Grimwold use the mirror, and as Lord Fear shields his eyes a sudden idea strikes her... does the BOUNCE spell affect Lord Fear's weapon as well? Figuring that it's worth a try to disarm him, she bounds forward as he covers his eyes and takes a swipe at his stick with her claws...*

*YG remains where he is, doing his best to re-angle the mirror so that Lord Fear continues to be dazzled, and continues to need to cover his eyes. Although the stubby fingers of an ogre do not normally suggest precision, YG greatly improved his co-ordination when working with the equipment on Captain Nemanor's sea vessel; and through many weeks spent building houses-of-cards with Brother Mace.*
*YG waits to see the outcome of Ursula's attack. Will Lord Fear be disarmed? And is the Automatum still on a pursuit course?*

*Ursula's strike not only disarms Fear, but also knocks him flying a considerable distance, leaving a large gash on one of his arms. It seems BOUNCE only works once...*

*Lord Fear screams in agony as his arm is in consideble pain*
"I will not go down so easily" said Fear as he secretly grabbed a handful of dirt and dust waiting to throw it into the eyes of either YG or Ursula.

[OOC: It would be interesting to find out how Hordriss' book-burning has affected Lady Morgan...]
*YG was bracing himself for Ursula to be repelled by Lord Fear's shield again, and is surprised when this doesn't happen. Seeing LF sprawled on the forest floor, he realises that this is the perfect chance for he and Ursula to evade him and rendezvous with Hordriss... but then, what use is Hordriss' ambush if LF is already immobilised? YG considers inciting Ursula to finish LF off, and begins to imagine more blood among the leaves... but quickly suppresses his violent impulses as one might stamp out a small fire, reminding himself that they must oppose the gameplay that The Old One so mysteriously craves.*
*YG must do something though, and he decides quickly...*
*Dashing over to LF, he puts his longsword at the dark mage's chest. It then occurs to him that LF might not actually have a heart (this is a rumour he has heard). So, recalling something that Ursula mentioned to him previously, he trails the blade up to LF's pale throat, and pokes it just underneath the thread necklace. He is not used to wielding a sword, and it takes him a moment to steady himself.*
Lord Fear... don't force us to sink even deeper into this vile game. Just don't. You're disarmed, and outnumbered. And ever so slightly injured. Try anything and the first thing I'll do is try to cut your necklace, much as it suits you; and from what I've heard, there's a good chance that disturbing the thread will make the necklace tighten and strangle you. If not... well, I have a sword either way, and Ursula has claws. We will all die together, unless we pledge to survive together. Come with us to find Hordriss, and we can protect ourselves from the Automatum, and find a way out of this gladiators' prison. And if you're lucky, we will help you with that gash on your arm. Any thoughts?

*Ursula is slightly shocked at the damage she's inflicted, reminding herself of the vow she made upon being trapped in the arena. She must not take a life, even Lord Fear's, because then she will be playing the Old One's sadistic "game".*
*She follows Young Grimwold over to where Lord Fear lies, and stops a few paces behind him, watching Lord Fear carefully with a faint growl rumbling in her throat as she waits for his reaction to the choice Young Grimwold has given him*

[OOC: Buggery! I missed the book burning!]
*As the book slides into the flames there is a terrible scream from within the pages, and a flurry of letters is emitted from the smoke, spelling various words before the parchment collapses in ashes*
Contestant #7, Lady Morgan De Chaos, dead. 5 to go.

"Very well, but we first go after that robot the Automatum, and also when we get out of this plave, you allow me to go after this thing's messenger that sent us here and I'll either banish he to the Sewers of Goth or roast him with a Fireball" said Lord Fear releasing the dust in his hand and letting it drop to the floor.

*Young Grimwold withdraws his sword and allows Lord Fear to stand up, relieved that they have his co-operation, and somewhat surprised that he was able to reason with an evil overlord and sorcerer so successfully. It makes him aware of just what a strong hierarchy the possession of magic sets up in the world. For despite his great natural strength, and the ceasless cultivation of his intellect, he can never rise above those who are able to bend the rules of nature and command the elements, just by a thought or a gesture. He wonders if, on this more level of playing fields, he is managing to earn some of Lord Fear's respect.*
*By this time, Sylvester Hands' TRUST spell has worn off, and YG has realised that he was rather hasty in trusting Hands. Hoping not to do so again, he keeps his blade pointed towards Lord Fear, reminding himself that trust must be earned, especially in a situation such as this, where it is all the more precious.*
We might be doing ourselves a favour if we disabled the Automatum, as I doubt it can be reasoned with. But as for going after it... it seems more likely that it is coming after us, whatever we do. I say we find Hordriss, and regroup, so we are better prepared to face the creature.
By the way, Lord Fear, perhaps you'd show us what you have left in your knapsack? So we know what we have at our disposal. [OOC: Please send an IM to Ursula and me if you decide to show us.]
As for The Old One... I think we'd all like a word with him at least, when this is over. How you deal with him is up to you, I suppose; as long as doesn't take revenge and drag us all into another battle.
*YG pauses.*
Oh, and I seem to recall you calling me a 'son of a witch' earlier. I'm not.
*The longsword moves a little closer to LF.*
More a 'son of a crone', or possibly a 'son of a hag'. It's just that mother did go around calling herself a witch for a while, and it got us banned for life from WitchHaven Holiday Park.
*YG stops rambling, and looks to the others for their opinions on what should happen next.*

*Ursula's knapsack came off when she was thrown through the air, and it is now lying a few meters away from them, unseen by the remaining contestants. To them, one of them could have stolen it, or its contents. All that you all know is that the pack is missing...*
