[ModNote: Continued from The Chase Begins.]
*Old Man Thompson’s cart trundled into Wolfenden, the old farmer sat in the front seat his cart was full of hay. He was a regular sight in Wolfenden and no one paid him much head normally. But today there was something different alongside him on the front seat sat another man and he was dressed and carried himself in such away to mark him out as someone of official rank.*
*In the back of the cart there were another three less well dressed but still official looking men two were tending to their friend who looked rather worse for wear and strangely had some leaves and twigs stuck in his hair and clothes.*
*The Official up in front looked very uncomfortable and embarrassed at the mode of transport he had been forced to use to make his entrance into town but he tried to retain some dignity and sat tall and as proud as he could given his situation.*
Thompson: Beautiful day wouldn’t yer say squire??
*The old man asked trying to spark conversation. The Official just grunted.*
Thompson: What did yer say happened to your friend back there again??
*Inquisitor-General Anton Wolfram sighed; he’d told the man three times already. Mind he couldn’t believe it himself. I mean how in the underworld dose a Tree…a WHOLE DAM TREE fall out of the sky and land on one of his best agents. Deputy-Inquisitor Jakeson would be seeing stars for a month.*
“A Tree fell on him.”
Thompson: "Yer don’t say!! "
*Thompson said obviously not believing a word Wolfram had just said, he gently pulled on the reigns of the cart.*
“Whoa there boy. Well Squire this is as far as I go, yer can easily walk from her to the Inn.”
*Wolfram was glad to finally get off the cart.*
“Thanks much obliged.”
*He said and disembarked, he went round the back and helped his other deputies (Zamba & Sholto) get Jakeson off.*
“Where to now chief??”
*Sholto asked as he and Zamba struggled to keep Jakeson steady and upright. Wolfram looked round, this was not the way he had wanted to start his investigation.*
“You two take Jakeson to the nearest Inn and get us some rooms. I’m going to go to the local tavern their normally good sources of local gossip and information.”
“And I could do with a drink.”
*He muttered to himself as he strode off towards the Crazed Hefier. Leaving Sholto & Zamba to half escort half drag Jakeson in the direction of the Wolfs Howl.*
