In the same instant the trapdoor clicked, Wren pulled the dagger from the depths his tunic. He was unaware of anything else happening around him - the people, the sounds, the wooden boards beneath his feet - his whole world now consisted of himself and the rope before him.
Knowing he would only have one chance, he shot his arm forward, letting the dagger fly from his fingers with a flick of his wrist towards the rapidly dropping rope.

*Wren's uncanny aim did not desert him his knife hit dead center of the rope there was the sound of the rope tearing and cutting and then it dropped, severed half way down, just a short stump hung from the corss bar of the gallows.*
*Leytan meanwhile feeling the rope go slack had with the un-natural speed that betryaed his less then ordinary abilitys jammed one foot into the rafters holding up the gallows and tried to balance himself and to stop from falling all the way into the pit below the gallows.*
*He put one foot up blindly trying to find the platform and step up. However his bound hands and blindfold disabled his normaly keen balance and direction instead of going left towards Wren as he intended he actualy pitched forward and fell off the gallows landing with a sicking thud right in front of Midnight.*

The hangman stared blindly at his assistant, briefly paralysed with disbelief.
'By the GODS, boy, what-'
He stopped, as if seeing him for the first time. Blinking, he stammered -
'Your eyes... they're...'
Wren turned to him, and broke into a manic grin.
'All the better to aim with, Master' he responded, the meekness and subserviance gone from his voice, replaced instead with an undeniable tone of both confidence and mockery. As he continued to watch, he calmly slipped the hood from his face and casually dropped it to the floor, revealing the distinct features of Vyrrian Wren.

*Rhiannon stood stock still for a few moments, it seemed the last few minutes was taking in time in actually catching up with her, where as around her the crowds were going crazy. Some crowding in around Leytan and others trying to move back wards while they felt the temperature suddenly drop as he hit the ground. Others trying to get out of the way of the guards starting to make moves into the crowd to catch up with the escaped criminal. "
"Her gaze came up to the stranger that had cut the rope for a few minutes while the world around her suddenly seemed far louder than it should of been then her gaze came back to Leytan laying on the ground in front of her and her instincts kicked in. Before her brain could actually catch up with her emotions nd try and talk some sense into her , her hand was on the handle of the dagger at her waist sliding it silently out of the sheath as she bent down grabbing Leytans by one shoulder with her free hand and bringing the daggers blade to the rope around his wrists. The blade cutting through the rope within moments while the hand on his shoulder pulled the now cut ropes away from his hands and dropped it to the ground.*
You don't half know how to tempt the luck of the fates Leytan.
*She murmured loudly before reaching a hand to his head and pulling the hood out from under the noose and tugged it roughly from his head, bringing colour and light and everything and everyone around them back into sight.*
Care to make a suggest of how we get you out of this?
*Her dagger still held in her hands while the crowd took a couple of steps back when they finally saw the faint silver flash of the sun reflecting along the blade. She slowly rights herself standing up properly.*
As now would be a very good time to work out how.

By now, the crowd had finally worked out what was happening, and pandemonium had just kicked in. Some fled, some surged towards the gallows, some had started brawling with the others, all were screaming and generally panicking.
Wren glanced to the ground beside him, and his eye caught the sight of someone kneeling down to Leytan. For a second, the flash of a blade caused him to panic, that some member of the crowd had taken upon themself to dispense with justice there and then. But the person turned out to be none other than the mysterious woman that Leytan was staring at earlier. Clearly she was an aquaintance, and a helpful one at that.
No time to help him just now. He wasn't finished securing their escape yet.
'What have you done with Nicholas?' growled the hangman, and in the brief second Wren's eyes were elsewhere he had somehow aquired a broadsword, and was holding it in a way clearly (yet laughably, to Wren's trained eye) meant to be menacing.
'You're assistant? Sleeping off three flagons in the Inn. Poor lad, never had a pint before. You really could stand to treat your underlings better.'
The hangman snarled, and thundered towards him wildy, sword swung back. Wren regarded him briefly, almost without interest at first. Then, as if it were the most natural thing, he stepped to the side and behind, plucking the sword from his fingers and lashing out with his boot. It caught him square in the back and propelled him over the edge of the gallows, where he landed uncomfortably admist a sea of people, causing further chaos.
Wren briefly marvelled at the anarchy, but quickly snapped back to priorities. Dipping once more into his tunic, his withdrew four small paper balls he 'liberated' from Leytan's confiscated personal effects and a match. His fingers were a blur as he set about lighting them and, with a final admiring look at the chaos he had created, he flung three of them into the crowd.
Master Tremas always said I had a flair for the dramatic savoured Wren as he let the final smoke incendary slip from his fingers to the boards.

*Leytan blinked and tried to quickly re-acustome his eyes to light, he quickly took in the situation and what Midnight had said as well as the advancing gaurds.*
"Only one Midnight, my appolagise right now but please play along."
*He said quickly to Midnight, then he spran to his feet disarmed Midnight took one of her hands and twisted it as gentely as possible with out makeing it obvius it was faked behind her back and put the dagger as close to her throat as he dared.*
"One step closer and this pretty girl is going to louse her head over this situation."
*Leytan hissed at the gaurds. He started backing uptowards the gallows takeing Midnight with her. As he did so he wisperd in her ear.*
"I don't tempt fate, I didn't know Wren was here and if I had I dam sure wouldn't have agreed to this methord of escape."
*Out the corner of his eyes Leytan could see Justice of The Peace Julian Feric and Judge Thompson-Smyth trying to get the drop on him and Wren by comeing up on the left of the gallows.*
"WREN!!"
*Leytan yelled at his freind.*
"To your left."

*To the right was something else completely, namely the fast moving shape of a highly annoyed Watcher amongst the smoke. To see Leytan drop had been one thing, to see him drop right through had been quite another.*
*To have him drop right through with the help of the executioner, smoke to suddenly billow everywhere like a bonfire gone wrong and then reappear with RHIANNON at the point of Her own godsdamned blade was something else!*
*As the back of the crowd surged backward in a panic, Coriolis pushed forward and upward. Using the quarterstaff both as a deterrent and a pole vault He tried to get on top of the wave of people moving backward. Musicians and troubadors would use a similar trick centuries later almost in sport but Coriolis needed to survive AND get to the gallows quickly.*
*The crowd started to thin out as He got to the split point of those brawling and those running away from hell. The quarterstaff disappeared amongst the robe into whatever half-magical place it resided and the Dirk was drawn from its scabbard.*
*If the Atlantean wasn't to hang, He was to part company with His head at the neck...*

*Rhiannon's eyes started to burn as the smoke spread around the gallows and further out into the crowds. Her eyes starting to water causing them to become red and puffy her skin paling slightly more than normal at the smell of the smoke reminding her of Arios for a few moments*
*Though all this worked in advantage to giving her the terrified look of someones life at risk. Trying to keep her steps matched with Leytans. Her gaze briefly glancing down at the blade at her throat, even though it was Leytan that held the handle it still made her nervous, unsurprisingly.*
*The smoke seemed to circle then, fading them from sight slightly as peoples eyes reacted to it as well and they tried to protect them from the stinging sensation of the smoke.*
Oh you didn't? I guess that may be good to hear but we seem to have one problem....we are in the eye of s storm any idea how we are actually going to get out of this?
*She keeps her gaze on the crowd and then Wren as she hears Leytan shout causing her to jump slightly. Not yet noticing Coriolis the smoke being as blinding to her as those trying to capture Leytan,*

Wren jerked his head sharply at this comment, and he did indeed make out two resplendant figures marching towards him with clear hostile intent. He had time to flash them both a smile before the incendary he had dropped to the floor of the gallows burst into smoke.
Wasting no time, he jumped forward from the gallows and landed elegantly on the ground, and as he moved he weaved and ducked around the flow of the crowd with unthinking fluidity. Within seconds, he had found Leytan.
'The cart' he coughed, trying his best not to inhale the smoke. 'I took care of the guard, we can-'
He blinked, momentarily fazed.
'... the HELL are you doing, man?' he gaped, realising he was in the middle of taking someone hostage. With her back to him, he couldn't recognise the young woman he had spotted on several occasions.

[OOC: You may have been planning to do the following anyway, but if not, please could one of you mention, either in a post or via PM to me, the condition of the gallows and of the other prisoners (e.g. did the entire gallows break when Leytan was freed, or just part of it? Are the other prisoners now free, hanged, or simply trapped - or a mixture of those states?) It may have a bearing on how Young Grimwold reacts to what is going on.
Sincere thanks in advance.]

*Leytan looked at Wren and rolled his eyes. Then turned Midnight slightly so Wren could see her face and slyly winked at him.*
"Buying us some time he hissed. Here take hold of her be gentle she's on our side but make it look real."
*He thrust Midnight into Wren's arms.*
"I got one last peice of buissnes to take care of first"
*With that Leytan put Midnight's dagger between his teeth and jumped up grabing hold of the edge of the gallows and hauled himsefl back up on top of them. He then ran towards Sindy and Jake who were still hooded, bounde and with nooses around there necks.*
"I told you we ain't dead yet."
*He wisperd to Sindy as he cut her bonds and helped her remove the noose and hood. Then unsure which was Jake and which was Kerbs he pulled both men's hoods off to see. He turned his back to Kerbs and cut Jake free.*
"YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME HERE!! HAVE PITTY!!"
*Kerbs yelled in desperation. Leytan turned and looked at him emotionlesly.*
"Ok."
*He said flatly and coldly and moved closer. Malstrome grinned but the sudelnly grimiced and let out a deep gurgaling from his throat and then slumped down The dagger stuck in his ribs. Leytan regarded the body and said coldy.*
"A Quick death is the only pitty you deserve."
*He bent down and removed the dagger from the corpse. Then truned and quickly hussled Sindy and Jake towards Midnight and Wren. He was about to join them when he saw Fenris and Smyth finaly manged to stagger their way threw the smoke screen and onto the gallows.*
*Feric drew his rapier and ran at Leytan.*
"STOP!! I areest you in the name of Warlock."
*Leytan smiled his sinister smile and then as quick as a cobra his right arm shot out and grabed Feric's Wrist he gave a sharp twist and Feric's rapier droped from his grap. Leytan then pulled him forwards and caught him a hard blow to the rib cage with his free hand.*
*Feric gasped winded and stagerd back Leytan hit another had knife edge chop to the side of his face which sent him down in a heap at the edge of the gallows. Feric tried to pull himself up but Leytan was waitng on him and when Feric finaly righted himself Leytan hit him with a hard round House kick to the jaw which sent him sailing over the egde of the gallows right into a puddle of mud a few feet from Wren and Midnight. He brifly stired and tried to push himself up.*
*But the his eyes rolled back into his head and he fell unconcious in the mud. Leytan then turned his attention to the portly Thompson-Smyth who was corwering beside Malstrom's body. Leytan walked over and hauled him to his feet by his collor.*
"So you like to sentec people to hang do you Judge?? Well lets see how you like it."
*Thompson-Smyth's eyes widene in horror as Leytan grabed hold of the noose which had been around Sindy's neck. Leytan grinned a very sadistic looking smile and then sudenly knee Smyth in the guts. The portly Smyth crupled into a heep gasping for air and Leytan quickly secured the noose around his ankles then shoved the rotuned judge onto the trap door and pulled the leaver there was a yell of shock and anger as The Honorable Horracio Thompson-Smyth the judge of Warlock renouwed for his sentece of death by hanging now found himsefl hanging upside down in his own town square from his own gallows.*
*Leytan smiled and then lagued at the sight of the fat Smyth thrashing about his cloke hanging down, his face red with rage and embrasment. Leytan the hopped down from the gallows and re-join Wren, Midnight, Sindy and Jake.*
"Now then what you say Wren we comondear that cart over there and make our exit?"

'I'm awfully sorry about all this' apologised Wren to Midnight as he continued the position previously adopted by Leytan, his own dagger to her throat. 'I've found that when the fellow's somewhat riled, it's a good idea not to interfere. How do you do, by the way, the name's Wren, Vyrrian Wren.'
He raised an eyebrow when two of Leytan's fellow prisoners joined them. They were clearly amazed by the pandemonium taking place, and he struggled not to be amused at his comrade's sense of natural justice, about which volumes were spoken by the fact that the wife killer was not joining them.
As the business behind him was 'concluded', he was rejoined. "Now then, what you say Wren we commandeer that cart over there and make our exit?"
'Best chance we got, I think we've suitably outstayed our welcome. Does this mean I can stop threatening this young lady?'

Not just yet... *The clouds of smoke rolled apart as a humanoid figure burst through at speed. The bright gleam of a blade closely followed by 2 green glints just behind it...* You were brought here for a purpose! NOT to take yet more victims! *Though trained more in infiltration and stealth rather than a toe-to-toe fight, his skill with a blade was no small one compared to Leytan. The blade held in the downward grip, His arm twists sideways and launches a downward swipe toward the Atlantean. It wouldn't sever his head but having 18 inches of steel protruding from your neck is never a healthy thing...*

*Rhiannon bit back a growl as one blade at her throat was replaced with another this time being under more discomfort than with Leytan. Though Leytan obviously knew the stranger, she didn't and the fact that this stranger had a blade at her throat caused her already rather churning stomach to tighten slightly until she heard the strangers words barely over the noise of the crowds her gaze briefly coming to those just released from the once impending death. She closed her eyes as she saw Leytan killed the third with her own dagger. Paling even more while she bit down on her bottom lip only opening them again when she heard the stranger talk once more. Avoiding looking at her dagger Leytan still carried now coated with the dead mans blood coating the silver blade.*
*She had heard of what he had done and though she felt his death was deserved she wished his life had not been taken with her blade but the deal was already done and she made a brief mental note to clean the dagger as quickly as possible *
Once we are away from the chaos that is surrounding us and I don't have a blade at my throat oh and when we are not all at risk of being arrested or killed.
*She mutters sarcastically to herself not actually having responded to anything Leytan or Wren said as she kept her focus on those around them. *
*It was at this point Coriolis seemed to appear out of no where, the smoke wisping around them, blurring them slightly but not enough to mistake it for anyone else. Rhiannon blinked then she felt her stomach tighten even more. She was torn between vomiting and fainting and she did briefly wonder if the stranger named Wren had cut her throat and she had died hence why Coriolis was there.*
*Though the sight of the blade in his hand and the words that faintly reached her ears over the crowds screams, the guards yelling trying to break through them and the loud , hectic , hard sounding drum beat of her heart washed away such thoughts.*
*The feeling of being ill or going to faint grew stronger as she realized who Coriolis was actually aiming to injure. Her eyes widening with shock at seeing him and knowing he was ACTUALLY truly there not some figment of imagination or apparition. Her instincts told her to scream, or to move to aid but the blade at her throat kept her in place even if the person was not going to use it on her any sudden move and she would bleed anyway.*
*Her skin was once again though pale as milk under neath and with a slight tinge of green was slightly grey due to the smoke, apart from the water tracks down her cheeks from the tears caused by the stinging smoke the tears made fresh at the sight of Coriolis.*
You know Coriolis your timing could be a little better in coming back from the dead.
*Her tone despite how she felt inside was her normal sarcastic tone she used when around him for some reason, though the words come out slightly choked. She was glad to see him yes but WHY did he have to pick now to appear?, WHY did he have to pick now to pick a fight? and the next thought that went through her head. He wasn't dead no, but she was going to kill him the next chance she had.*

Where did HE come from? mentally gasped Wren, not knowing if he could handle much more of this madness. Grateful for the oppertunity to cease restraining the young woman, he sprung to the side, positioning himself between Leytan and this sudden arrival.
'Don't you DARE!' Wren roared with uncharacteristic anger, two slim daggers appearing in his hand as if by magic. So close to succeeding, he was not going to fail now.
