[ModNote: Continued from A New Home. Poster renamed from 'ringmasterrob' to reduce confusion.] *The next morning Dreevis awoke from a night of tossing and turning, her hair was a mess and the clothes she has been forced to sleep in by paranoia were creased. Having little time she brushed her hair quickly and straightened her clothes up as best she could. She went downstairs and ate quickly, seeing to her relief her newer methods of protection have worked a lot better but she will still as Edmund for more. She heads for the guardhouse, notices several crates have been delivered overnight, containing weapons. She walks into the guardhouse and straight into Edmund's office to see him.*

*The door was locked and Edmund appeared to be busy so Dreevis waited outside, making sure the guards were working.*

[ModNote: Phinehas was last seen in A New Home.] *Having stashed his cloak, bow, and clothes in a safe place, and having dropped by at a local clothes store and bought something fancy, Phinehas steeled himself for another try. He was now wear the height of fashion as opposed to his preferred black, and had a cane. He limped and spoke through his nose, just in case Dreevis might recognise his voice or gait. In his new ensemble he sauntered haughtily straight into the center of the guardhouse and in an imperious voice asked for the Chief Inquisitor.*

*Again Dreevis answered him*
"The Chief Inquisitor is busy right now, however I am his assistant and may be able to help you with your query. If not you'll have to wait until his meeting is over."

I'd rather talk to him, but I'm in a terrible rush. I'm trying to sort out a robbery and was wondering if there's a sort of Thieves Guild here that may perhaps be the culprit.

"Ah, a robbery, allow me to fill out an incident report so we can get men on it. Who are you, what was taken, where was it taken from and who is your suspect. Well, so far I know your suspect is the local Thieves guild, not that it surprises me from their reputation. The rest of the information then?"

It happened yesterday. I was mugged in an alleyway that I'd thought would make a good shortcut. All my cash on hand was taken, a good 200 gold pieces, and my gold pockewatch.
*Phinehas decides to have a bit of fun.*
The dirty, thievin' rascal who did it was dressed in a black cloak, and I couldn't see his face. He had a dagger, and a secretive, menacing way about him, like he wouldn't think twice about breaking into your house. I'm sure that doesn't help, but those were my impressions.
Oh, err... this Thieves Guild... I don't suppose you know where it is, or who's in it? I'm just wondering because I'm somewhat new here and am looking to buy a house. I'd like to buy one as far out of the way of any thieves as possible, and would prefer to know if there are certain shady men that I should stay away from having dealings with.

*Dreevis is totally taken in by this man's story and totally misses his all too accurate description and reference to breaking into houses. She scribbles furiously at the memory of the man last night then when she has written it all down answers the question.*
"Well, officially there is a thieves guild operating here, few members are know other than Sly Hands who's a beggar. He also works for the opposition, you'd know him if you saw him, basically avoid Lord_Fear and Marblehead as much as you can, there is another organisation but no one really knows who is working for it. I hope this is of use, be sure to report anything else suspicious to us citizen, good day."
*She gives him a satisfied smile, believing she has just gained useful information. Instead she has given away secrets she refused to give away at arrow-point. She is looking forward to meeting with Edmund even more now she has made this 'achievement'.*

*Phinehas bows and limps out muttering.* Oh my, a Lord Fear, and I wonder what a Marblehead is. *Limping along and muttering like this he eventually reaches his clothes stash. Quickly changing back into his black, and donning his cloak, he can't resist one last laugh. He folds his fancy clothes and pins a note to them on which he has written, "Don't believe everything you see." He then flags down a guard, who comes up suspiciously at seeing this cloaked and hooded man holding clothes. Phinehas hands the clothes to him.* Inquisitor Dreevis is expecting these. *The guard looks up at him and is obviously reluctant to take his word for it.* They're evening dress for the Chief Inquisitor. I seriously doubt he'll be happy with you if he has to appear at tonight's party in something else. *The guard decides that no suspicion is worth risking the fury of Sir Locksley. He quickly grabs the clothes and scampers off in the direction of the guardhouse. Phinehas chuckles as he watches him go.* I think I may head over to Catherin's shop and see if she's seen this Sly Hands character.[ModNote: Continued in Robbery.]

*The guards bows and hands the clothes to Dreevis a few minutes later, she isn't paying much attention, having just ordered the guards to search for this man. After they leave she looks at the fancy clothes of the gentleman who made the report and realises. She turns bright red and buries her head in her hands*

[ModNote: Locksley was last seen, chronologically, in Robbery.] *Sir Edmund has had a successful morning. Hobb had arrived for work finding that he was already there, checking the collection of weapons gathered.* All in order Hobb, all in order. I would have prefered it if Miss Barter had sent her finer stock, she appears remarkably un public-spirited, but this will do. It serves its purpose. Hobb: Shall I distribute them, sir? Sir Edmund: Indeed Hobb, carry on. *He looks at Hobb* Sir Edmund's thoughts: Yes, possible potential, will need an important task to bring it out I think. *Later that morning the much-vaunted new troops arrive. They are recieved in Sir Edmund's back office and seem very secretive. Certainly the door remains locked for much of the morning, but when he finally emerges his bearing suggests satisfaction.* *He sees Dreevis and notices her red face and shifty demeanour* Ah, Dreevis... the formation of the undercover unit is going well and.... Dreevis. Tell me. Dreevis: *Nervously hiding the clothes* Sorry sir, I didn't get much sleep. Sir Edmund: Indeed. Why is this? *Dreevis gulps. He is not angry, but in some ways she hates this cold stare even more. It feels so dangerous. Quickly she relates the tale of Phinehas breaking into her house the night before, laying stress on her dependable reactions. When she finishes Sir Edmund is still looking sternly into her eyes* Sir Edmund: I am afraid that I do not believe that is all. It does not take any great deductive skill to assume this. You are clearly uncomfortable, yet you handled this situation successfully. Somehow I doubt that you are embarrassed over the securing of your house... *It's no good. Try as she might she can't avoid telling the truth when under the beam of his gaze. Shamefacedly, she explains about Phinehas' [OOC: spelling? ;D] visit that morning and shows him the clothes he wore. Sir Edmund examines them.* Sir Edmund: Indeed, this is the self-same elf who attempted to gain acces to this information before. Of course the actual information is not of any great value, practically every person in the village knows of the Thieves' guild and Opposition. If as you say he was unwilling to shoot you in cold blood then I doubt he would join the Opposition's ranks. But he could be interested professionally in the Thieves' guild. Hmm.... this may be useful. Hobb! *Hobb runs over, still trying to ingratiate himself with Sir Edmund.* Hobb, I would like you to accompany A.I. Dreevis and act as her personal guard. *Dreevis tries to protest that she can look after herself. Sir Edmund silences her with a look* As was clearly prooved last night Dreevis you are at risk. I doubt that this shadowy elf is the killer we are looking for... or by now you would be dead. Despite this folly you are too useful to risk. Continue your duties in organising the new forces, both of you. Then follow up leads. I shall see to the matter of the deceptive elf. *As he leaves, Dreevis sighs. She wishes that she could justify herself. But she has learnt from long experience that when he is around, Sir Edmund does all the talking*

*In the back room of the guardhouse, Sir Edmund examines the clothing sent to them using a monocle which acts as a powerful magnifying glass. Then, carefully, he cuts a perfectly square piece from one part* Is this enough? *He hands it to the silent, shadowy figure in the corner. The figure wears a black cloak, and carries a long dagger. It looks at the cloth and nods* Good. This is your first assignment. Do well in this and you will be made our official surveillance unit. Remain camouflaged, the Hash'ashim are famous for your abilities to become practically invisible. Remember though, your quarry has a similar skill. I am well aware of your dislike for direct combat, so if he detects you, return. I want to know what he does and where he goes... understand? *Nodding again, the figure slips outside, becoming almost invisble as it does so, like a ripple in the air. At the edge of the village, it finds a cage, and taking the cloth, pushes it inside. After a few minutes it opens the cage, and a shaggy, shapeless creature slips out and into the distance. Silently, invisibly, the assasin following his trained cavernwight. They are on the trail.* *Back in his office, Sir Edmund ponders* Sir Edmund: Really very convenient of you to send me the clothes laiden with your scent. Your move. [OOC: This is not an assasin from Lady Morgan's old guild, but rather one of those from Series four who could become completely invisible... I thought they could do with an airing] [ModNote: The assassin and cavernwight continue into The Aftermath.]

[ModNote: Continued from A Spirit-Walk With A Twist.] *Shortly afterwards the Ringmaster enters with the unconcious Walter slung over his shoulder, Hobb looks up and come to see if he can help.* Hobb: "May I help you...." "...I'd like to speak to the Chief Inquisitor" *Dreevis stands to give her usual message* "..Nope, no deputies, no subordinates, the man himself please." *Dreevis frowns at this man, she's figured out he must be the Ringmaster that Edmund mentioned. She decides that his request can be complied to, Edmund would no doubt want to hear what this man has to say anyway. She raps on his office door loudly*

*On hearing the rap on the door, Sir Edmund casts a look at the other two assasins he has recruited, they take the hint and make themselves scarce. Sir Edmund has given orders that he is not to be disturbed, which must mean that this is important. Rising, he unlocks the door, and sees the scene in the outer office*
*He raises one eyebrow*
Assault and battery Ringmaster? Or have you conveniently found our man for us?
Hmm, whatever the situation I think we should discuss this in private. Unless he is really necessary as a prop I should leave the gentleman outside. If he is a criminal there will be guards, if a victim then healers. Now, come in Ringmaster.
*Once the door is closed, and automatically locked behind them*
Now Ringmaster, I doubt that this is to give yourself up. You have some evidence for me?

"Well, as I have just bought in a man guilty of kidnap, assault and battery, attempted murder and indeed he has succeeded at murder had a very skilled young lady not healed his unfortunate victim. If he is not already wanted in this realm then I'll wager he is highly wanted in another realm. His name is Walter and despite his appearance he's a dangerous man. Whether you were even on to him already I don't know and I don't much care, all I will advise is that to let him back to his 'master' would only cause more trouble.
As for 'giving myself up' then you seem to be labouring under the impression, the rather false impression no doubt, that I have done something that would require me to give myself up. If you knew my history as well as you claim then you would know I have the best intentions, in my departure from Wolfenden it was in a magical explosion which damned near killed me, but before that I took out a villain plaguing this village and absolutely ruining the order here. Perhaps it would serve you better, Inquisitor, not to make enemies with those who fight for your cause."
*RMR is clearly quite riled and aggravated by this point, he's had a long few days with several encounters with the shadow and a few too many blows to the head to quite be able to keep his cool. He hopes Edmund knows better than to cause trouble when he's in this mood.*
