*Above the sounds of moving furniture, choir and band rehearsals and the practicing of sermons then not one person can here whatever sound the poor jester can make. The order of services states that Deal shall recieve his special award in the evening at around nightfall and afterwards there shall be fireworks and a great feast. It appears that the De Chaos family will be staying in Wolfenden for the forseeable future as their estate is being renovated.*

[ModNote: Hordriss was last seen in Waiting.] The sounds of the moving also cover the faint inrush of air, as a tall elderly man in a dark cloak fades into view at the back of the hall. Weary from his preparations, he checks his pockets for the necessary equipment, finding finally a small crystal ball, hardly larger than a paperweight, he settles down on a pew at the back to watch the scene outside. As he does, however, his eye catches a flyer for the day's event, and he notices, near the top, the proclaimation: We are honoured also to have the esteemed De Chaos family at current residence in our humble village. For a moment, Hordriss' look of gloom is lightened, and he almost smiles, 'Ah, De Chaos, now that does bring back some memories.' Then, the thought banished from his mind, he brushes off the crystal, and softly whispers: 'Show me the one who plays the recorder, and the animal woman, one must make sure of their progress...'

Hmmm...
*Hordriss looks up from the scrying crystal and notices that the ceremony will soon begin*
<to self> One would have preferred someone more salubrious to carry out the exorcism, but in such situations one has little choice. In any case, he is an effective magician, despite his other.... qualities... and his companion seems suitably respectful. When we are formally introduced, one will have to dispell the rather unflattering portrait painted. Pompous! The very idea
[OOC: Yeah, right, this guy calls himself 'one' even when thinking ;D]
In any case I think that this matter is in safe hands, I must not watch now... too much risk... I shall check later.
*Waves his hand over crystal, which goes milky white, he secretes it in his robe*
Now, it would not do for one to be found skulking at the back of the hall. One will await the time for a more fitting entrance.
*Silently, Hordriss fades away.*
*A few minutes later he reappears behind the church, resplendent in his crimson robes and medallion. Realising that he's still too early, he casts his eye about, and it falls on the coach bearing the De Chaos family crest.*
Ah, Excellent. I think that the time is nigh to renew our acquintance.
*Slowly, with stately dignity (at least what he continues to be stately), Hordriss progresses towards the coach.*

Post by Brother Strange on Jan 24, 2004 0:22:21 GMT
[ModNote: Brother Strange was last seen at Ida's Hut.] * A hooded figure in a monk's cowl joins the assembled guests. Brother Strange makes conversation with the villagers, most of whom know him by sight. As usual, he talks about the weather, philosophy and (his personal favourite) proverbs, while evading or ignoring questions about himself. Somehow he seems able to get information out of even the most closed-mouthed, although few of the villagers have anything to tell him that he does not already know. Although it is quite warm, Strange does not lower his hood, and no-one remembers a time when he has ever done so. Despite the heat, he does not appear to be sweating, and moves with silent calm. No-one has ever seen Brother Strange run.*

[ModNote: Yasuke was previously seen in Any Room?] *The wandering samurai has decided to take a few days rest and absorb the local custom, as part of this then he has decided to attend. The crowd are almost all gathered and only the arrival of Deal and the high priest are yet to happen. It is a mere 12 minutes till the ceremony* [ModNote: Yasuke is next seen in A drink with an ogre.]

*As he makes his way through the crowd, Hordriss notices the samurai, temporaily distracting his attention from the regal coach before him. Stopping to consider the unusual figure he turns, and sees Brother Strange. Whilst Hordriss' manner as he approaches the mysterious monk is apparently relaxed, the tension in his brow tells a different story*
Strange... it has been quite a time since our paths crossed. One thought that.... but it is no consequence. Tell me, much has changed since One was last here, and as one recalls, you are a man who knows many things....

Hordriss... It has indeed been a long time.
There is much happening in the lands of Knightmare. An archmage is here from another plane, and is hunted by assassins. Something stalks the forest and kills in the name of Ariadne. A tortured spirit.... But you know about her already.
*A villager passes near them as they talk*
But enough of such things, they should not be discussed here. Would One care to talk further with an old wanderer once this occasion is finished?
*Brother Strange leans in towards Hordriss. His breath is cold.*
*murmers* Evil walks in many guises, great mage. Keep all your eyes open, there is no honour in this ceremony.
*returns to a relaxed position, and talks normally again.*
So, have you run into any interesting proverbs on your travels, Hordriss?

*Hordriss frowns, considering the news* An archmage... naturally one is used to incursions from other planes, although not so often between phases of dungeoneering... I hope that he is trustworthy, One has no love of assasins, but someone who is wanted dead is not usually blameless, at least in the eyes of a few...
*At the mention of the ghost, Hordriss, looks down, his heavy brows shadowing his eyes, but does not speak. He listens silently to Brother Strange's warning. Then smiles*
<Softly, whilst Strange is bending close> Thank you, ever reliable, Brother.
<Straightening> Hmm, a proverb for services rendered? <laughs> Most certainly. Tell me, do you posses:
'Pity reigneth soon in gentle hearts'.
<Looking at Strange, again with warmth, but with tension, almost sadness, in the eyes> A fine sentiment, do you not agree, Brother?
[OOC: A Chaucerian proverb, no less! ;D]
