Infamous Mercenery brought to JusticeThe whole realm of Knightmare as well as many others can sleep easy in there beds tonight, as The Ice Killer will stalk the streets no more, when in a few weeks he pays the price for his crimes.
It was 1 ago week that it was confrimed by the Local athoritys in the small hamlet of Warlock that the notorius Mercenery and killer for Hire Leytan had been arrested and was due to stand trial on 14 counts of murder, 2 of of accesory to murder, 1 of attempted kidnapp and of violating nutrality laws. Relating to the failed bounty kidnapp of alleged war crimminal Sheik Kovax 2 weeks ago.
Leytan know as "The Ice Killer" is belived to have been responcibal for upwards of 300 other murders, is arguably the most wanted man in the Knightmare realm not associated with the Opposition. Leytan a Half-breed was born to an Atlantian Father and a Winterian mother. Was brought before the Warlock court at the start of this week.
The Trial lasted 3 days with the prosacution layed out in grusome detail the bloody trail of corpses and maimed soals that Leytan had left in his wake. Although only charged in relation to the Kovax case evidence of Leytan's other crimes was submited into evidence.
With such a compleing case the deffence could offer little in rebuke and Leytan's staunch reffusal to deffend himself or even reconise the procedings as legal and legitimate did not help him.
At the end of the 3rd day the judge passed the enevitable sentence
"Death By Hanging."
300+ dead, countless wounded, maimed and permently scarded or crippled. Numurs griveing familys and loved ones and countless other crimes have all lead Leytan to his enevitable capture.
and now it seems they will lead him to his deathon the gallows in 2 weeks time. Taken from The Warlock Street Journal

And not a single mention of his mysterious escaped comrade Wren thought to himself. I'm simeltaenously relieved and insulted.
Wren flicked through the rest of the tabloid, but nothing else caught his eye. The rest was politics, gossip and rumour. There were times when he did lament the phasing out of the troubadors - they were noisy and on the whole positivly atonal, but Wren was always a firm believer in the human element. His student years as a junior clerk in the Guild had somehow dulled his appreciation of the printed word, although he still held a strong love of his library's classic tomes and literature.
Wren sighed and tossed the paper into the already-roaring fireplace that took up the west wall of the Inn. It was a bad business, true enough, and he did feel a small pang of regret for his part in the circumstances which had bought Leytan to his predicament. But what was done was done. There was nothing that he could do about it now, and stewing in lament would help no one, least of all Leytan.
So what now then? Rest, regroup, back on the road. Keep moving. You never know who might be catching up. That was his brother's old motto, wasn't it? And it had always done them both well.
Until...
No. Don't think about it. It means nothing anymore. That was then, a whole lifetime ago. He was young then... useless... weak... he couldn't do anything. He couldn't even protect that which was most important to him. Not like now.
Not like now. Now you simply choose not to.
He winced at the traitorous thoughts enaimninating from the depths of his mind. What made them hurt the most was that they were true.

[ModNote: Continued from Retrofit.] *About half a mile away on the outskirts of Wolfenden. A portal gave the familiar sound of rushing air and a scraggy looking male traveller stepped out. An involuntary shiver travelled the length of Coriolis spine for a moment. The feeling of displacement you got when travelling the paths was something He could never get used to. At least now it was something he could experience again, no longer being trapped in the realm he had been 'diverted' to so long ago...* *The Watcher was back on what could be considered as familiar ground and he decided to walk back into town in an attempt to yet again refind His errant Sister. He still had the bad feeling of what he may have caused after introducing... 'Spyglasses' to the realm. Although Coriolis was back in Knightmare, there was still no guarantee that it was the same realm that He had left..* *The first signs were good however, literally. Nailed to a wall on one of Wolfendens outer buildings was a piece of the Journals account. It was weather beaten and wet but the words were still readable..* "Death by Hanging" huh? The bastard deserves no less... May be worth paying my last respects to the one who nearly killed me. Worth it to see the look on his Halibut face... *The Watchers pace quickened...*

[ModNote: I'm a bit confused about the location(s) in this thread: Leytan: The thread was started in Otherlands; does this imply that the journal was circulating around Warlock, rather than Wolfenden? Wren: Is the inn mentioned in your post located in Warlock, or elsewhere, or did you intend it to be the Wolf's Howl Inn? Coriolis: Is your post based on the assumption that the aforementioned inn is the Wolf's Howl? It is plausible for the outskirts of Wolfenden to be 'half a mile away' from the Wolf's Howl, but not so much for Warlock to be a half-mile from Wolfenden as the crow flies (crows don't use elf paths ). Thanks in advance for any shedding of light, gentlemen. ]

[ *** No worries YG. The thread is being used as a 'Gathering place' for several of the involved players to get onto the same plot but from multiple locations. Hence this thread being in 'Otherlands'. Leytan is presumably 'banged up' in whatever cell, Wren drowning his sorrows in the Pub and Coriolis returning from 'Retrofitting' the dungeon with Spyglasses. Others MIGHT appear here from various directions as well but, in this case, it's the EVENTS that glue it together rather than physical location. For Coriolis in particular, consider him mobile and on the move. Unaware of Wren... Remember that retrofit was set in the past, we're now back in the present. Crows may not use elf paths but Dungeoneers and many of the dungeon denizens did. If you can step into the cargo hold of a ship and land in thick forest or castle courtyard then surely taking a 'shortcut' between towns is possible? It's also plausible that major news from one nearby village or town would filter through to Wolfenden. The troubadors and town criers can't be doing there jobs that efficiently if something like this HADN'T got into the gossip rings! Further info on request (with the exception of spoilers of course) 'Ask and ye' shall receive' *** ]

*Sat in his prison cell in the town jail in Warlock Leytab gased out of the steeled bared window. he looked across to wards the town center. where he knew that construction work on the gallows were being constructed.*
*In 2 days his long career was it seemed going to come to an end. Not the end he'd always hoped for not death in battle or some quiat retierment but the death of a common crimminal.*
*hopefully it would be a quick death that it seemed was the only thing he could hope for now.*

[Also arriving in Warlock, several hours have passed since Coriolis re-entered the realm of Knightmare] *The afternoon was wearing on when an unfamiliar shout left a guards throat..* [Male and Gruff, outside] An Atlantean cleric to see the prisoner! Clear the way! *The sound of shuffling feet and grumbling voices echoed around the small stockade room as the guardsmen put away their dice and cards and filed out of the room. A few seconds later the cell door was unlocked, opened and then relocked before a half familiar voice spoke out.* 'Ello chum, now THIS is a pleasure I never thought I would enjoy so soon... *covered in cast-off dragon scales and the grubby, fish smelling, robe of a dockman. The effect is 'brotherly' enough to fool the average guard but those in the know could tell otherwise pretty easily. Coriolis seemed out of breath, the ley-paths had been a little skewed as history re-centred itself. He'd hike the distance to Warlock rather than risk being launched into only the gods knew where.* *Resting a hand heavily on Leytans prison Yoke. The Watcher gave a confident little chuckle to cover the Dirk blade leaving it's scabbard.* It's just a shame I never got the chance to fully repay your mischeif MYSELF! *He kicked the back of a knee and pressed down hard on the prison bonds to drop Leytan to the ground. At the same time, the downwardly held Dirk cut a neat little half crescent, maybe the letter 'C' but who knew, into his Shoulderblade.* Just thought I'd visit to repay a little debt I owe. The ol' "Ice Killer" must be slipping a little if He manages to get himself into a predicament like this in so backwater a place. *The trademark Wry Grin across his face. He makes a cross gesture in front of the Atlantean, apeing the moves of a medieavil monk.* Spirito Sanctus, Carpe Jugulum... May you return to the hell you spawned... *The hood of the foul-smelling robe climbed back over his head as Coriolis banged on the door twice and was let back out. The Watcher staying unhurried as He walked off into the streets of the town.*

*Leytan winced in pain at the slah in his arm. But as Corlious steped back and went to the door he heard Leytan's laugh.*
"The hell that spawned me?? You still haven't leanr Watcher look in a mirror some time your no better or worse then me......neithe is your sister Rhianon."
*The last jab was desiced to realy get to Cor.*
"When will it dawn on you??? There's no such thing as Good or Evil. I may hang tommorow but it won;t be because I deserve to, which I probaley do, or because some judge said so. It'll be beacuse I represnt what people are affraid of most, there own darkness."
"I won't hang for the "Justice" you so proudly claim to uphold or the hollow claims of Good and morality, but because people like you hate to have the mirror held up and revel that at hart.........everyone is just the same."

[ModNote: Continued from Leaving Reality Behind.] *In her panther form it had not taken too long for her to arrive in Warlock. On the outskirts hidden among the trees she took a few moments rest in her panther form before shifting into her human guise then stepping out into the more open lands heading to wards the jail. Her gaze too focused on the path in front of her, her mind too distracted by the worries of losing yet another she gave a damn for. There was a saying that bad things came in threes she was beginning to wonder if someone had handed her several dice of threes rather than just one with everything that had happened.* *She was quickly forgetting the last time she had actually been really happy. She took no notice of those around her and her normal manners of letting people pass by her first had been blown tot he four winds. * *She saw figures moving but she didn't' truly seem them , her mind set almost now is a cloudy haze of determination. Perhaps if her mind was more focused on her surroundings she would of noticed the brighter flicker of the jewel but she didn't her gaze focused on the jail's doorway. Or would be if some cleric of some sort was not walking to wards her, normally manners would of made her pause ar moment and step aside but instead she walked for wards still with as much strength as she could muster, her shoulder crashing against the clerics roughly the smell of fish briefly tainting her nose and caused her to pull a face and she merely increased her pace not even looking back to see how the cleric had fared quickly disappearing into the shadows of the jails entry way only pausing when the guard prevented her going deeper.* 'nd where do you think you be going Missy? *Her eyes gave a feral flash of annoyance at being stopped in her tracks and briefly broken by her thought's causing the man to take a brief step back.* I am here to see the criminal Leytan. *The guard casually glanced over her form, admittedly right now she did not look her best but at least the dip in the lake had washed her.* Look missy, we do not allow criminal ..such..pleasureable visits. *Her eyes narrowed slightly turning a darker shade of blue.* I am not here for such a visit Sir but to tell him fare well. *The guard seemed rather nervous by this time as he watched her facial expression and eyes simply nodding his head and turning.* I will see if he wishes a visitor.

*The gaurd returned a few minates later.*
"You can go in but only for a little while."
*He unlocked the door and opened it for Midnight to enter.*
"Hello Midnight."
*The voice came from over in a shadowy part of the cell. But Midnight's keen eyes could make out the figure sitting calmly in the dim light.*

*She nodded her head slightly in thanks to the guard but paid no heed to him after that her gaze becoming focused on Leytan she shook her head faintly sighing quietly before sitting down on the cold floor.*
*For a few moments she doesn't say anything, she doesn't know what to say. Now her task in getting here was done her mind went blank for several minutes.*
Hello Leytan, what did you do..or one of your past crimes finally catch up with you?
*The words though on there own could be taken more as accusation her tone hinted at merely curiosity at what had occured for him to end up in such a place.*?

*Leytan smiled at Midnight.*
"Hmmm..I think the term is Irony. I was arrested and am to be exercuted for takeing part in a Bounty Kidnapp of a Wanted War Criminal. The Man and 2 of his body gaurds died in the resulting cahos. I was thrown from the cart I was makeing my escape in and the Justice Of the Peace placed me under arrest."
"So basical Midnight the law is hanging me for doing their dirty work."

*She nods her head slightly as she leans forward slightly resting ehr forehed against the cold bars in between them.*
But you know how the laws work Leytan. You have for years. I wish I could help you and had I been here sooner perhaps I could of done, perhaps I could of made a plan but now...*she lifts her hand giving it a casual wave around the dimly lit cell.*
It is too late, the night comes as will the dawn...*She looks over to him a moment.* and with the dawn will come your death. If my estimation of time passing is right anyway.
*She slowly rises to her feet, shifting on them slightly.*
Is there anyone you would like me to contact? Any one that I should inform of what has happened?
*She clenches her hands slightly flexing her finegrs that had started to proverbially itch and the growing frustration that coursed through her form. The inability to actually do any thing was a stinging lesson. She was loosing them all and tehre was not anything she could do about it. She knew upon the eve of Leytans death she would become what she once was again. A lone wanderer....she would become alone.*

*Leytan looked thortfull for a moment.*
"My remaining family on my father's side probaley won't care one way or the other. But...I have some relatives in Winteria still. If you could Midnight would you let them know what happaned."
*Seems to have another thought.*
"And Midnight if you could.....would you be in the crowd tommorow somewere neer the front so I can see you?"
"Just so there will be one freindly face there."
*Leytan's tone of voice has changed no longer the cold tone of the infamous mercerny but that of someone not scred of death but someone scared of faceing it alone.*

*She watches Leytan a moment at his request, a very faint smile twitching just the corners of her lips before she nods her head slightly to him.*
I was planning to anyway but yes I will be there for you tomorrow. It's the least I can do, who is the relative's in Winteria I should inform of.....your...your..
*Her voice falters a moment tears threatening to spill but she reigns then back under control, blinking her eyes a few times to try and ease the stinging sensation that threatened to cause them to spill again. Unable to say the last word she takes a deep breath.*
Who is it I should tell of what will have happened?
