*Raven looks at Tom, and relises that he is looking right past her. She turns around and stares at the brick*
"Tom, does your magic always do unexpected things?"
*Raven opens the window and attempts to usher the brick away upward*

*The brick remains where it is. Charged with Tom's magic, it seems that only he can affect it.*
[OOC: Is it really a month-and-a-half since Tom last posted here? Gosh. His absence is beyond my control, but I apologise on his behalf. I hope that when he is willing and able to return to posting, he will make this plot a priority. In the meantime, all I can really say is: sorry again, and thanks for waiting.]

*Seeing the brick resist her efforts to move it away, Raven turns back to Tom. He is still sitting there... rigid.. almost as if he were in some sort of trance. She moves over to Tom and looks him in the eye. She moves her face closer to his.. slowly.. slowly..*
"BOOO!"

[OOC: This is a personal request: Tom, if you're out there, then please come back and post in this thread. It's getting on for three months since you last posted here, and it's not fair that Raven's had to wait this long. Although the forum has lots of plots in progress, I feel that for the Mods, those plots involving non-Mod members should be top priority. In my opinion, it is our duty to provide a service for them.
So please, help bring this thread properly back to life, and give Raven the quality of roleplay for which he/she joined the forum, and which I know you can provide. Or, if something is stopping you, please message Raven about it so he/she understands the delay.
Apologies if this post seems like unwelcome interference.]

She moves her face closer to his.. slowly.. slowly..* "BOOO!" *Tom lost in thought is startled by this.* "OH MY GIDDY AUNT!" *Although true to character he quickly regains his compusrer and can't help but smile and chuckle quietly. For him to chide someone for have a mischeivous streak would be a case of the Pot calling the kettle black.* "I'm affraid my dear Raven that since my magic is.......well lets just say its Hobo magic and is there for less then what you might call stable but also more then what could be termed anracic." "As to our Mystery trader from mexico I think we'll just have to tread carefully with your purcheses. So lets see what we have here then shall we." *Tom begins to regarde the goods Salamanda had sold to Raven.* "Well That is deffinatly detect powder there's no 2 ways about that. But these pills...................." *Tom regards the bottle coldly.* "I think we'll play it safe for once and just use the detect powder for now what say you miss Raven??"

[OOC: At the risk of sounding impertinent, if you have time to post with your other characters, i.e. Leytan and Count Brinkatore, then surely you have time to post for Tom as well, even if it's only a brief post? Please don't leave Raven in limbo.]

[ModNote: Good on you for getting out of limbo and back into the roleplay. Now let me see if I can come up with an explanation for what's been happening here...] *When is a brick not a brick? When it's a complex booby trap. The first stage - after creating it, that is - is to disguise and conceal it. Somewhere it won't be found too easily, but may, just may, be set off one day by an intended target, such as a hobo magician who tries to fix a broken chimney stack by drenching the bricks in magic. Magic that is recognisably his, and would activate the trap. A slim chance is better than no chance. The second stage is the warm-up. In some realms, traps are given a 'countdown': a warm-up to complete activation that, rather than causing any damage, warns the targets of their impending doom and gives them ample chance to avert or flee it. How nice - and how silly. Better to have a trap that causes subtle problems as it warms up for the big finish. For instance, how about a trap that generates an ultrasonic trance-inducing pulse, affecting human and Alzan brainwaves alike? The targets might notice each other drifting off into daydreams, but they wouldn't know why - and nor would they realise that their trances are lasting days, maybe even weeks and months. And then, when the device is fully warmed up, there comes... ...The third step: the aforementioned big finish. Now a gigantic explosion looks and sounds fabulous, but it leaves a hideous mess, which is no good to anyone. A much neater effect would be simply and quietly to spirit the target away, and imprison him somewhere for later collection, or perhaps forever. It is called a trap, after all. And the fourth stage? A spot of the old evil laughter. You can never have too much practice at that.* [OOC: That provides an explanation for the huge pauses in this thread, and makes the brick sound like more than I originally intended it to be. So Tom is now trapped in the device. I'm sure he can be freed eventually, but in the meantime, it at least gives a reason for continued silence. ] [ModNote: More on Tom and the brick can be found mainly in Brick or Treat? ( here and in subsequent posts describing 'the Lurker') and also in Draconian at the Door ( here), Waking up ( here) and finally in Light Headed.]
