It may do, Grimwold, but there's only so much I can say without anything actually happening.
*He reflects.*
We're going to try and pull old Catchpole down. I trust you'll do your part in the heaving? We could do with an ogre's strength on our side...

Strength is not a quality I have in abundance; but brute force... if that will help, I... will provide it. Callimpsest is my friend, while the brick seems to be no one's.

*At this preciese moment something strange occured, witnessed only by Calimpeast, thouse on the ground below and thouse who were still left in the room.*
*For a few breif moments the Brick started to glow. A Dull glow at first almost unoticable except to Calimpeast due to his close proximity to the Brick, but gradualy the glow intesified untill the brick shone as brightly as a small sun. It glowed with an intense white light.*
*Then as quickly as it had apperad the glow faded away againg and once more the Brick looked just like an oridnary brick that was doing the extrodinery feet of levitating off the ground and was temporaly caught in a some what uniqe looking net, with the owner of said net hanging procerasly from it.*

*Callimpsest had been watching Young Grimwold's arrival when he felt a growing warmth, soon so strong that it felt as if the sun was beating down on his head. Below, a few of the onlookers gasp. Leaning his head back, Callimpsest sees the brick glowing. He assumes that it is fighting back against its imprisonment in his net, and trusts that the net shares his own stubbornness about not releasing the brick. Now where are Meliss and the Headmistress with that magic?*

*Phoenixflame shook her head slightly, as if to clear it from some troubling thought as she looked down at Callimpsest*
"Sorry, I think I was in a completely different realm there, so do you want us to cast a spell to allow you to descend, whilst holding the brick? I think Meliss is going to get Smirkenoff, which actually sounds a good idea, maybe we could all stand on his back and pull it down that way?"

*Callimpsest bites his tongue. If PhoenixFlame is his potential saviour, then he doesn't want to offend her; nor does he want to expend energy on ranting for any purpose; but he stares at her as if to say, "Please, there's no more time for talking it over. Dreslin's plan has been agreed: go downstairs with the others, regroup below, and cast a joint spell with Meliss."*

*While all this was going on Calimpeast sudenly became aware of a strong sensation of being watched. But not by any of his fellow investigators, this sensation had more of an otherworldy feel about it and even the air sudenly seemed charged with some sort of strange presence.*
*Calimpeast looked around and almost instantly his eyes were drawn to the....person..least that was the best discription that could be given him... who was observing him.*
*A Figure dressed all in white stood lurking in one of the side streets on the other side of the main street faceing the Wolfs Howl Inn, there was something etheral about him as if he wasn't truley there but the most strikeing and some what ominuss thing about this observer was the fact that his head and face were obscured by the shroud of someone who was recently deccessed.*
*The Lurker held Calimpeast's gaze even though his eyes were not visibale Calimpeast was certain they were looking at him...then the Lurker raised his right hand and pointed at the brick above Calimpeasts head.*

*Dreslin is following Meliss out the room. He turns to address PhoenixFlame.*
This Smirkenorff, whoever he is, is merely a "perhaps". And he sounds too large to fit among the buildings anyway. I don't think we should keep Callimpsest hangi... waiting. He needs you to take action.

*Phoenixflame blushed*
"Oops, I really wasn't paying attention, OK Callimpsest, we'll follow your plan! See you on the ground when you bring our brick friend down!"
*Phoenixflame slipped lightly off the window sill and back into the room, motioning for Morwena to stay*
"OK, I'll head down, I'll leave Morwena up here for company! And you're probably right about Smirkenoff Dreslin, I think the towns seen enough destruction for one day!! "
*Phoenixflame grinned at Meliss and Dreslin as she passed them and headed towards the door*

*Thinks: Alas, she is right about not really paying attention. It wasn't Callimpsest's plan, it was mine! But with any luck, she took in the plan itself. That man's life depends on it.*
Company, for me? Why thank you, but I too was heading for the door, before you in fact! As I said, keeping the brick from floating back up will require 'manpower', and though I am elven, I can provide something like it, if needed.
*Quietly, though, the tired Dreslin hopes to be asleep somewhere comfortable before too long - with one roommate at the very most. He makes for the door, glancing at Zeytan and Malark as he goes. The mire-crab has yet to react to the note that landed on his shell.*

*Meliss returns Phoenixflames's smile and then follows her along the corridor and down the stairs.*
"One does hope that this plan works...one is sure that it will because surely no small object, no matter how powerful it is, will not survive the onslaught of our powers combined. Yet it is better to be prepared for all eventualities, and even though I do agree with Dreslin that Smirkenorff is rather a large fellow and won't have much room to maneuver in...I can't see any other alternative. I think perhaps we should clear that crowd of people a bit...make them stand back a bit, they are taking up valuable room that Smirky could use... If I summoned him now he would be here in a matter of seconds. You see, it would be foolish to wait until Callimpsest fell (if the worst happened and he did) before summoning Smirky. That dragon is quick but not as quick as a drop to the paving stones would be..."

*Young Grimwold, nervous about facing up to the danger Callimpsest is in, has been avoiding looking up. However, he sees the brick's momentary glow out of the corner of his eye. Although he is less averse to bright light than many ogres are, the intensity of the incandescence is enough to make YG grunt in discomfort, for which he is then embarrassed and annoyed. Looking up, his stomach lurches as he takes in Callimpsest's predicament. When did the librarian swap his intellect for the impetuousness to get into a situation like that? YG is worried about making eye contact, but fortunately Callimpsest isn't looking back at him. His eyes are fixed on someone else on the ground.
YG follows Callimpsest's gaze to the white-clad figure, whose features are literally shrouded. He looks away, wondering whether Robin has seen the figure too.
To Robin* The lepers are getting thoughtful these days. Marking themselves out with a shroud instead of bellowing about being unclean. It's more dignified all round. And a saver of time for the undertaker, I should think. He could well set a trend.

From a nearby street corner burst two panting gentlemen, who hastily stopped and were currently doubled up wheezing.
'For the last time, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING SOLD FROM THE BACK OF A DONKEY CART'.
'It was an invisibility potion! You can't tell me something like that wouldn't come in useful?'
'Jules, you drank something and were shown a mirror that looked suspisciously like it had the glass removed. Call me a paranoid skeptic, but couldn't there have been the SLIGHTEST chance you were getting conned? Anyway, what would you do with the power of invisibility? Seriously?'
Julian opened his mouth to answer, but found he couldn't actually think of anything. Nothing respectable, anyway.
'There we go. Now then, that's our boy, just over there.'
Julian peered across the street and observed that the figure was standing opposite some manner of pub. It seemed to be pointing to someone or something inside the building. It didn't seem to have noticed their arrival.
'What do we do now?'
'Hang about for a bit. I get the feeling something's about to happen.'
'I feel like coughing up my lungs, does that count?'

*With elvish nimbleness that is only slightly hampered by his monk's outfit, Dreslin darts past Meliss and PhoenixFlame on the stairs, hoping they will follow his example make greater haste. Soon he is standing outside, next to Robin and YG. He wonders whether Zeytan will be following the others outside or remaining in the room, and how Malark may react to the note sitting on his shell.*

*Meliss decides to hurry up and join Dreslin outside, so she quickens her walk*
*To Phoenixflame*
"I'll see you in a minute...one is eager to see what the situation is like outside"
*She half walks, half runs out the inn door and scanning the crowd, notices where Dreslin, Robin and YG are stood so heads over to them.*
"Phoenixflame won't be a moment" *Looking up* "I pray that our combined efforts will pay off and that infernal object won't be able to counter the onslaught of magic for once."
