It would seem to recognise you! Which, knowing its provenance, is no surprise. Mr. Vartern the landlord once informed me that it - she, I should say - is Bethsemane, formerly owned by your cousin Sidriss the Confused. I must say too that I've never before seen Bethsemane sport these particular colours. But then, she can control the nature of her visibility.

"Bethsemane...of course! One did not think she would be here without my cousin in the area, she went everywhere with her...but then...if I remember correctly, the last time I saw my cousin she was complaining about Bethsemane going missing again. Now I know where to."
*Meliss picks Bethsemane up and puts her on her lap, where she curls up and shuts her eyes, purring all the time. She is clearly very pleased to be back with someone familiar.*
"Sidriss will be very pleased when she hears that I've found you. However, one thinks that you'll be safer around here with me at the moment, rather than returning to Sidriss. When I left to come here, her spells were going more awry than ever before. One fears for her safety..."

*Malark looked perplexed he could hear a cat but couldn't see one and now a cat with purple stripes has appred as if out of thin air and leped on to Meliss's lap.*
*He scuttles over and looks at Bethsemane and blows some bubbles in her direction while scrtching his shell with a claw.*

*Bethsemane feels something pop gently against her face and opens one eye. There are some bubbles floating towards her, from the direction of the floor. Moving slightly on Meliss' knee, she looks down and sees the Mire-Crab looking up at her. "What a curious beast" she thinks to herself. "He looks friendly though". To show she means no harm, she gives a gentle miaow. Meliss notices what's going on and smiles at Malark*
"Hey Malark, meet Bethsemane! She's my cousin's cat, but she'll be staying here with me for a while. Don't be shy, she's a very friendly, gentle cat. Come and say hello, won't you?"

*Malark started back slightly when Bethsemane's head apperd over the edge of Meliss's lap but the cat's freindly miaow put him some what at ease agian.*
"Come and say hello, won't you?"
*Malark looked up at Meliss and blew some yellow bubbles and then scuttled up her dress and onto her lap. He found himself face to face with Bethsemane.*
*Bethsemane miaowed again. Malark blew some pink bubbles and genttle patted her on the head.*

Kenji looked at Julian.
And Julian looked at Kenji.
And as though they were of one mind, they grabbed their drinks and placed their hands over the tops of the glasses at precisely the same moment.

*Callimpsest chuckles.*
Don't worry yourselves so! Bethsemane is the erstwhile familiar of a trainee sorceress, not a four-legged alcoholic kleptomaniac. If she were the latter, she wouldn't be tolerated as a presence round here. Red is the one with milk in his glass, but even he is unlikely to have any of it taken off his hands - I beg your pardon, his talons - without his permission.

*Robin absent-mindedly flips his empty glass around, mimicking Julian and Kenji's motion, only adding to it. An odd, repeating rhythm comes to his mind as his glass makes the sounds.*

The sound of this tapping instantly put Kenji on edge, and he clearly tensed.
'Steady mate. I doubt that Saxon charletan has a presence here,' calmed Jules.
'Yeah, well, once bitten and all that.'

Why, there are Saxons aplenty hereabouts. Lord Dunshelm for one. Though better known to some as the Master. I mean, Dungeon Master.

*To Robin* I'm not sure if you meant the Dungeon Master or myself, but if the latter, kind thanks!
*To Meliss* Have you ever been introduced to the Dungeon Master, perchance? I believe that on occasion, an honoured guest or two is invited to the castle, and john simm... I mean joins him... for a meal. And I know that your uncle formed an increasingly close acquaintanceship with Lord Dunshelm as the adventuring phases went by.

*Raises an eyebrow at Callimpest's accidental mispronounciation of "joins him"*
"Hmm...one has never had the pleasure of meeting Lord Dunshelm, unfortunately - it would be an honour if one day I did. My uncle spoke of him with the greatest respect, I have to say he sounds like a man with many stories to tell of the adventures in his past. Maybe one day one will get an invite..."

*Phoenixflame smiled slightly at Bethsemane and the scholars reaction with their drinks. Morwena meanwhile has seemed to have calmed down slighlt and is looking curiously at the group, wondering why Kenji has reacted like that* "Well, I have to admit, I've never been there either, then again, I've got a really bad habit of being absent for important event!" Phoenixflame said with a laugh "I don;t think Lord Dunshelm has ever asked anyone to call him Master, wasn;t that more Lord Fear's style?" She added conversationally (OOC: Hey, apologies for yet another of my absences, I've been really busy with work and whatnot, trying to catch up form 2 weeks of jury service, and going on holiday etc, so i may not be around much next week either, hope to be back full time week beginning 31st, apologies again! )

I wouldn't know, Headmistress, I've never worked for him! Though I did once have an employer who has not discouraged me from calling her "-mistress" even though our working relationship ended years ago!
*Callimpsest laughs to himself, feeling a little smug about drawing attention to the irony of PhoenixFlame's remark. As he continues to drink, the alcohol makes him more inclined to gossip.*
News of both Lord Treguard Dunshelm and Lord Fear has been scant lately. And far-fetched indeed, I might add. It's been said that Lord Dunshelm went on an adventure to some distant place named Dabbun Gallow, where he was enslaved by the king, Dickundom, for the amusement of his subjects. And other rumours have it that Lord Fear has left Marblehead to join a monastery!
