Aranel frowned in confusion once more, she chewed the inside of her bottom lip in thought. "The dungeon?", she questioned. Aranel shook her head and looked at YG, "Doesn't sound very nice. What is it?"

It's...
*The only true answer to a question like that is first-hand experience. But YG has no intention of suggesting a Dungeon excursion to Aranel. Her relish of an adventure there might be, quite literally, short-lived. Yet for the sake of courtesy, YG owes her some form of explanation.*
Have you heard of Knightmare Castle?

Aranel smiled and nodded, "Yes indeed, of course I have! The castle isn't secretly a dungeon is it? Whatever a dungeon may be"

*YG has a slight brush with envy. Does Aranel really not know what a dungeon is? How innocent and free a life she must have led... but no, it's not right to judge her like that, so soon. It may simply be that her tribulations and trials have taken place in the open.*
Usually, a dungeon is merely a prison, below the ground. Many castles and fortresses have one. But the Dungeon of Knightmare Castle... is rather more magical.
*YG pauses. He isn't keen to tell Aranel more than he has to about the Dungeon, for the more he thinks of it, the greater his discomfort.*

Aranel's eyes filled with worry, "Rather more magical?...How so?" she gulped and frowned, becoming afraid of the dungeon already. A prison she could deal with, but for something to be called a dungeon...and to be 'rather more magical'...it intrigued her, but scared her at the same time.

Can you imagine a place where walls have faces, corridors are lined with spears and blades, and most of the animals are several times your size? And yet there are no prisoners - only dwellers and... visitors.

Aranel stopped and looked up at YG, her eyebrows set in a firm frown. A small pout appeared on her face, "...Huh?" she blinked heavily, trying to register the description, "...Why would there be such a place? No prisoners? It doesn't make any sense..."

*Aranel's gaze of curiosity moves YG, and he tells himself that he is allowed to ramble and pontificate in response without feeling guilty. The Dungeon is a tricky subject for anyone, other than high-level mage or Dungeon Master; but YG has read, heard and seen much, and he might as well put that accrued knowledge to use.*
Indeed, it doesn't. I doubt there are many who truly know why the Dungeon exists and how it came to be. For all its danger, it came to serve as a place of challenge for children, and perhaps it was created solely for that. I've even heard it said that it was created by a Child. I have met monks who believe that the Dungeon exists as the ultimate battlefield for Good and Evil. And yet there are those who would say that the Dungeon is a mere illusion. If that is their opinion, so be it. But the emotions of the Dungeon - the passion, the fear - those are no illusion. They are quite real.

Aranel blinked again, still trying to register it all. "Children? Little ones? Why on earth...? There are more important battles to be fought, surely. Lessons to be learnt out in the open. Although, it may be good training I suppose.." Aranel tilted her head to one side, "How do you know all of this?"

[OOC: Unfortunately, this thread seems to have stalled. I'm going to rewrite my previous post (12/03/07, 7:54) so that it allows YG freedom to wander off elsewhere. I lived there. Much of what I couldn't know for myself, I have learned from those who are more familiar than I with the Dungeon and its visitors. Such as my parents, and other, wiser folk. [OOC: I hope you don't mind if I specify YG and Aranel's location. I'm not manipulating as such, since they were on the move anyway. ] *The pair have wandered into the vicinity of the village church. A wild goose - or maybe simply a rebellious one - is pecking at the spattered remnants of some fruit on the ground. YG glances at a nearby sun-dial. The church's clock tower would give YG the time more accurately, but he is uncomfortable with its incongruity. The sun-dial reveals that he is due back at the Crazed Heifer shortly.* I'm terribly sorry, I'm afraid I must return to work now. I'm employed at the Crazed Heifer. Please, do come and find me there if you get the chance. *YG almost adds, "I would like to see you again", but knows that even the most patient of females might misinterpret such a statement. Looking at Aranel, he almost smiles too, but subjecting her to an ogre's smile would be more an insult than a compliment, he fears.* Goodbye. Good to meet you. And... be careful with that sword. *Giving Aranel a restrained wave, YG heads back towards the Crazed Heifer.* [ModNote: YG is next seen in Warlock, Stock and Barrels.]

Aranel flashes him one more cheery smile and waves in return, "Lovely to meet you too!" She gave a contented sigh and looked around, "Well, let's see what else I can do today" Aranel swapped her sword into her left hand and began to wander

[ModNote: Admittedly, when a member stops posting for several weeks without notice, it's difficult to know what to do. But real life will always take priority, and there are no stone-engraved rules on how often you should post here. It's just that the more you do, the easier it is for the Mods to provide ongoing roleplay opportunities for you. ]
