*Shadow's red eyes turn wide at the picture that has been presented before her. She seems to recall this person from somewhere, but she can't remember where. But whoever he is, she doesn't feel comfortable thinking about him.*
Oh my...he doesn't look like the nice type at all.

*Callimpsest cannot tell whether Shadow's wide-eyed look is recognition or simply alarm at first sight.*
Indeed not. Any hint of niceness would not have seen him rise to the leadership of the Opposition, I'm sure.
*He picks up his mug, looking at the surface of the tea for a moment before drinking, trying to imagine what it would be like to have his own viewing pool with an army of evil minions on the other side of it. Probably too much hassle. At least he doesn't have to make his own tea.*

*Shadow remembers her tea. She picks it up and takes a huge swig. She notices Callimpsest's puzzled look.*
Umm...sorry. I'm really grateful for this information. Is there anything about dragons in this book by any chance?

Yes, I believe there is a general entry on dragons, with further entries on the named dragons of the Greater Dungeon. *Smiles* All arranged alphabetically, as might be expected.

*Hoping that Owen will be there, Shadow turns to the 'O' section. Sure enough, she is rewarded with a picture of Owen.*
That's Owen. I've met him before. He's very good company.

Is that so? Tell me, is he truly telepathic?

Why yes he is. I was quite amazed at it.

[OOC: This will probably be my last post for a few days, so apologies for any delay.]
Amazed, not scared? You are open-minded beyond your years! But then telepathy would by definition open one's mind.
*Callimpsest ponders whether he himself would find Owen good company. A being that can read thoughts would surely have no interest in reading books; and a creature reported to have said that the ignorant should remain so is perhaps not the ideal companion for a school librarian.*
Perhaps if we were to look up Elves in the Lexicon, we might find some information to tantalise Dreslin here!
*Callimpsest chuckles and glances across the table at the still-silent elf, whose continuing serenity is starting to frustrate him.*

*Not wanting to search up elves, Shadow changes the subject.*
Are there more dragons in this book per chance?

*Frowning, then smirking* As many as there are elves. After Owen, the next dragon to make himself known within the Dungeon Dimension was Smirkenorff. He is familiar to most folk of Wolfenden, ferried many a dungeoneer, and I myself became acquainted with him at the School.

*Smirkenorff. That rang another bell in Shadow's head. In fact, it rang a small voice.*
That's him! That's the one!
*'What was the one?' Shadow thought. Could Smirkenorff have something to do with her purpose?*
Can you tell me more? About Smirkenorff?

*Callimpsest is flattered to be looked to for information when the book he fetched could so easily provide the answers.*
Oh. By all means. Green in colour, a Great Crested Wyrm, reportedly the last of his kind but this is unconfirmed. Some say he was a subterranean prisoner of the Gruagach before Merlin freed him in his youth - in their youth - but I know not the accuracy of that either. Highly prized as an aid to the Powers That Be, he has had numerous protectresses from cavern elves to Airwans to sorcerers' nieces.
*Callimpsest pauses as he tries to recall more facts.*
And is known to his friends as Smirky.

*The voice in Shadow's head seems to be getting louder. It keeps telling her that he's the one, but why?*
Do you know where Smirkenorff would be now?

*Drassandre, who has been clearing a nearby table, chips in.*
Drassandre: We last saw him a few days ago, bringing Hordriss the Confuser's niece to town. Landed just outside the inn. Before he flew off, he was heard to say something about finding a suitable cave nearby.

*Whatever her purpose is, Shadow is certain now it has something to do with Smirkenorff.* Well thank you for this. I'll take my leave now. *Shadow hurries out of the inn, very pleased with the information she had obtained. She decides to gather supplies before she sets off to find this cave.* [OOC: To be continued in The Marketplace.]
