Were you to be on the Path at this moment, you would be puzzled by an odd blue glow coming from the nearby woods. You would be even more supprised as a woman comes staggering onto the path from the direction of the blue light.
She is dressed in a thin cotton robe, and the braids of her long hair have caught in the branches of trees. Her face is covered by her arm, but as she steps onto the bare ground of the road, she dropes it to her side, revealing a face that would be pretty, but for a painful looking fresh burn covering most of the right side of her face.
She looks around, but she is obviously unfocused, confused, and she collapses to the road in a heap.

*A figure is approaching along the path, wearing a hooded grey outfit and riding a horse-like creature. Then she sees the odd blue glow, which does indeed puzzle her, followed by the appearance of the woman, which does indeed surprise her. The rider reaches the woman just as she collapses. She remains on horseback for the moment. The rider is female (though you could be forgiven for thinking otherwise). She is...* Mrs. Grimwold: Oh my, dearie, you are in a bad way! *The only reply is a pain-soaked moan, and a hand lifted in the direction of the voice*

*Dismounting, Mrs. Grimwold walks slowly toward the woman, unsure of what to do, and hoping that whatever afflicts her isn't contagious.*

(OOC: sorry, was felled by a nasty cold)
*the woman stirs, and tries to lift herself from the dirt of the road*
Plea...*choke* please, it hurts...
*she slumps back down, obviously worn from even that effort*

Mrs. Grimwold: Yes, dearie, I'm sure it does. Have some of my water. Can't do any harm, can it?

*She knows someone is trying to help, so she struggles to focus, to rise enough to take the help offered, but her mind is fogged, her body slow to respond.*
Thank...thank you.
*The burn on her face is an angry, weeping red, singed almost black in some places, and taking a sip of the water is an effort for her.*
Need...need someone...healer. Please. Take me.
*She slumps, but does not fall to the ground this time*

Mrs. Grimwold: I suppose I can't leave you 'ere. You can have a ride into Wolfenden, and there might be a healer there. *Mutters to herself* If you're not beyond 'elp.
*As she is talking, Mrs. Grimwold steps back towards her steed, so that the woman can follow the sound of her voice.*

*She begins the task of pulling herself to her feet. It takes her longer than expected, and her brow furrows in frustration at how her body refuses to cooperate with what she is telling it to do. A few tentative steps forward, hands outstreched for balance...*
Where?

*The woman manages to stagger to the horse, but can't seem to pull herself into the saddle. As her rescuer reaches out to lend a hand, she finally notices his appearance. It gives her pause, and oddly, hope. There are more things in the dreamworlds, than we can imagine. Perhaps I am dreaming. She allows herself to be guided into the saddle. *
Thank you.

[OOC: A couple of problems have arisen with this thread: 1. My aforementioned PM to Irele, which was about her controlling Young Grimwold in her previous post, was sent on January 2nd, but hasn't had any kind of response. I would rather not edit the content of her post myself, as I feel that this would be overstepping the mark. 2. The extreme slowness of this thread means that Young Grimwold, my main character, is essentially stuck in limbo. This is neither convenient nor desirable for me. But I can't have him just walk off and abandon Irele, as I doubt he'd do that. I have now effected a solution to these problems: I have altered my previous posts in this thread to swap YG with a NPC. YG and Owen's return to Wolfenden will be narrated elsewhere. No need to edit your previous post now, Irele. Because Mrs. Grimwold is a NPC, not a main character, I don't mind her being controlled by others; and even the bit about 'his appearance' can stay: after all, on Knightmare itself, Mrs. Grimwold was basically a bloke wearing a fake nose! Continuing the story...] Mrs. Grimwold: Don't mention it, dearie, I was heading that way meself. I'm 'oping to sell this thing at the market. *Mrs. Grimwold points to her horse. It is, in fact, not a horse, but a goat the size of a horse.* Mrs. Grimwold: Stupid goat got 'old of one of my potions, and this is what 'appened. I call it a hoat. Grimmy, that's my 'usband, won't 'ave it around. It gives 'im the creeps. Especially when it lays an egg. Taste fine, though, the eggs: I call them hoat cuisine. *Mrs. Grimwold thinks. The woman looks rather frail, and Mrs. Grimwold doesn't want to arrive in Wolfenden with a corpse to explain.* Mrs. Grimwold: I tell you what, dearie. You can have the hoat. I'll go on ahead and do some shopping before the market closes, and you can ride the hoat in at your own pace. It'll get you to Wolfenden no trouble. Then you can sell it yourself. Just make sure you give some of the money to me, Mrs. Grimwold. You can pass it on through my son, Young Grimwold. He works at the Crazed Heifer tavern. Anyway, cheerio, dearie! *Mrs. Grimwold shuffles off towards Wolfenden, leaving Irele sitting atop the stationary hoat.*

[ModNote: It sadly looks as if Irele has turned away from the forum. So rather than having an eternal loose end involving a NPC in limbo, I think that her character should be left to her own devices. This is not ideal by any means, but I feel it's the best option.
Irele: if ever you decide that you want to rejoin the roleplay, please send a Private Message to me or another active Mod so that we can discuss it.]
*Time passes. The hoat realises that the woman sitting on its back is not making it do anything. Perhaps she doesn't want to ride along the path, and the hoat in turn does not want to take the woman where she does not want to go.
Trotting over to the side of the path, and a little way further, the hoat squats down and gently shakes its back, so that the woman is deposited in soft, thick undergrowth just off the path. The hoat, which is prone to surprising moments of intelligence and consideration (magic potions are wonderful things), reasons that this should be a safe resting place for the unwell woman: she will be undetectable to any highwaymen or other nefarious users of the path, while at the same time being close enough to the path for forest predators to steer clear. And should she end up spending the night out here, the undergrowth will keep the cold at bay. And there should be plenty of water left in the flask.
Wishing it could do more for the woman, but knowing it cannot, the hoat continues along the path to Wolfenden, hoping to catch up with Mrs. Grimwold.*
