The title pretty much sums it up. Read the guidlines section and looked at the forum. Now, I'm confused lol. Figured I should post here before I make a character. How does rp'ing on this forum work? I mean, with the different locations and all that. I'm used to having one thread for a whole rp/rp world.
Also, got some oddball questions:
Any races that are unplayable? I usually play characters like Lizardfolk (actually, Aurak Draconians for those who've read Dragonlance. My Avatar is an Aurak).
Class? I usually make my own class (Spellsword...or in other words a Battlemage) Anything wrong with that?
Magic? Saw that in the guidelines section and saw 4-5 spells (my memory isn't good...something hit my head....) listed. Would it be alright if I used spells from D&D? I can provide full descriptions for those who don't know the spell. What about FF Spells? (FF=Final Fantasy).
Alighnment? Do we have to play goodie-two-shoes? Or can I be my usual Polite Evil Bastered self?
Sorry for asking so many questions at start, just figured I'd get these out of the way before I mess up later on.

Hi, Addis, and welcome to Knightmare Roleplay (also known as Surrounds). Thanks for joining. I hope that we can answer your queries, and clear the way for you to have a fun roleplaying experience here. One important thing to point out is that this forum is inspired by, and based upon, the TV series Knightmare. It's basically an extension of that world. Just in case you arrived here without knowing about Knightmare, there's information aplenty at www.knightmare.com . Admittedly, a lot of the stuff in the Guidelines section is outdated, so sorry for any confusion that's causing. I'll give you a chance to reply to this post before I answer your earlier questions.

The Knightmare universe includes elements of Tolkien, Greek mythology and Celtic mythology, but overall is a lot less complex in terms of rules and regulations than fully-fledged RPing systems like D&D (which I don't actually know much about! ). As such, I don't think any races are considered unplayable here, but the practice tends to be to choose one that was seen on Knightmare. We tend not to have a concept of class, but if you want to give your character a cool title like Spellsword, that shouldn't be a problem. The rule about spells (GO, TRIP etc.) never really caught on, so we tend to ignore it. Since magic inevitably gives one character an advantage over others, if you want your character to be magical then please PM me with details, and I can offer you specific guidance about what would fit with Surrounds and what wouldn't. (In the meantime, this article - ikm.ezri.mine.nu/lexicon/entry/spell - might help to explain how spells worked on Knightmare. The words in yellow are links to other articles.) There are lots of characters on Surrounds who aren't magical or powerful, and they still manage to have excellent adventures. As for alignment: feel free to be bad! Though bear in mind that forming friendships and alliances with other characters can make things more interesting for your character. I hope that helps. Keep asking questions if you need to. I should be around again tomorrow.

Welcome to the realm! YG is effectively the boss around here though things are kept pretty loose unless help is needed. The only major rule I can think of that has to be followed is what I've heard some LARPers call "Rule 11". ie:- Anything goes but don't take the piss. Common sense is all that's really required... The roleplay here is more fanfic-by-committe rather than dice and stat tables. The normal tradition is to post a Character Profile in the named sub-forum and then follow it up with a starting post in the "Path to and from Wolfenden" board. Conveniently, a character named 'Dreslin' has just begun his adventure in the realm as well. The posts they've made is a good example to follow. Make your posts as long and as short as you like ("Rule 11" in mind of course ). What happens next is completely up to you and the entities you meet on the paths. Good luck on your adventures! I'll be 'Watching' and I don't doubt we'll meet at some point...

Me, the boss? ;D I suppose I am in charge currently, in the sense that out of the all the Moderators, I'm the one who's on the forum most often at the moment; but the ideal is for organisation and decision-making to be shared amongst all the active Mods. And we have a good crop of sensible and imaginative members, meaning that a lot of time, the forum almost runs itself. So hopefully I won't come across as too Draconian, in the English dictionary sense of the word. While some of the plots here are partially planned in advance behind the scenes by members, many storylines unfold spontaneously. So no one quite knows all that's in store... Out of curiosity, I'd be interested to know how you found this forum.

LMAO...I heard that and saw a book called "Draconian Measures"...lol
Me? Found this forum via. one of my random google searchs.
Hey, I got a couple of questions if ya don't mind answering (if you don't....well....some fires might start...lol, just kidding...or am I?!)
How does transitioning from other parts/places work?
What do you do if your character is thinking to himself, but you want to post his thoughts anyway? I usually put it in italics, but some forums I've joined use [ ].

Every time you travel from one section of the forum to another, you add an OOC note to the end of your post, indicating where you're headed, and if possible, the title of the new thread you're starting or joining. Then in the new thread, you start your post with a note to say which thread you were just in. Here's a very recent example: surrounds.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=inn&action=display&thread=1184228849&page=4#1191337380I suppose the clearest way to show that your character is thinking is to type *Thinks to himself* followed by the words of thought. Italics are optional. One other thing: I notice that you've put HP and MP (Hit Points and Magic Points?) in your Personal Text. We don't have a points system here at all. In fact, I'm so unfamiliar with the concept that I had to look up the meaning of MP online. Obviously if your character is injured or uses up a lot of magic energy during his adventures, you should remember about it. But the main things at all times are events, actions and dialogue. As Coriolis said, it works a bit like a group of people writing a fanfic together. It's pretty certain that no one on this forum would seriously harm another character without checking first. Having said all that, if you particularly want to keep a HP count and a MP count as a way of keeping track of how your character's adventures are affecting him, there's probably no harm in that. As long as you realise that you're not required to round here. I hope that's not too confusing. By the way, when I was washing up last night, I noticed that my washing-up basin is made by a company called Addis! Yes, I was washing up: shocking proof that I have a life outside Surrounds. ;D

Just for the record, the Hp, Mp thing wasn't meant for roleplay lol. I just put it there because I was curious as to how Addis would be in a FF game.
Thanks for the sample. I think I get it now.
....I'm not surprisded. I saw a car company nammed Addis.
Hmm....so when the evil Aurak Draconian retired from the war, he sold cars?
"By the cars or I will burn you alive and take your soul."

I hope you've been having a good time here. As a member of this forum, you are technically part of the internet's Knightmare fan community. So I suppose we should make sure that you become a Knightmare fan! This clip, added to YouTube only yesterday, should help to whet your appetite: youtube.com/watch?v=2akQsoBQYms . It's a compilation of moments from Knightmare Series 6 (1992).

Gotta admit, I'm impressed lol. Kinda like a LARP but for kids, awesome.
Hey, I got a question:
How do NPC's work? I mean, do we wing-it or does somebody rp the NPC's?

Some NPCs (Non-Player Characters) 'live' in a particular account, because they're linked to that account's main character. For example, I've used this account to play Mrs. Grimwold (Young Grimwold's mother) on a few occasions.
Many NPCs are played by Moderators who control a relevant area of the forum. So because I'm the Mod of the Crazed Heifer section, I tend to play the NPCs that work in the Crazed Heifer.
However, because NPCs are minor characters whose main purpose on this forum is to keep things moving and keep things interesting for main characters, anyone can RP a particular NPC at any time. You can also invent new NPCs for your plots if you want to, such as a passing villager who offers you information - or gets in your way...

Most episodes of Knightmare are now on YouTube. One you might find interesting is Episode 1 of Series 5 (1991), which was uploaded just last night by someone: Part 1/3: youtube.com/watch?v=XZY0oiXo5bUPart 2/3: youtube.com/watch?v=SXVQEydUwbQPart 3/3: youtube.com/watch?v=aH_aAUo4LqgThe episode introduced many new characters and elements, including the fictional town of Wolfenden, which of course inspired the Wolfenden of this forum. The team's adventure 'unpauses' and continues in the next episode, which should be on YouTube in the next few days.

Hey, saw the vid and thought it was pretty cool lol. However, I have some random questions if anybody doesn't mind answering:
I was reading threads in various sections, ranging from the rules to Dunnfalls, to the school, etc. and saw some interesting things. One thing kinda confused me: The Opposition? Marble Head? Technomagic (LordFear)? Is there a main, hidden (somewhat hidden...) villan on this forum or something? Just wondering what kinda plots are going on this forum (and I might enter some of those plots, depending on which characters to which actions - Like Jozan Dumarr).
