*Robin shrugs his shoulders, and squelches backwards.*
I don't know anything about any battles, uh, sir...
*...he is clearly unsteady.*
...but he does.
*And he motions at YG.*

Good to see you again, Hordriss, back to full vigour. This fine fellow is Robin. He did a sterling job of rescuing you just now, in spite of the fact that he got knocked unconscious by a falling branch earlier today.
*YG notices how unsteady Robin is.*
Perhaps you'd be kind enough to refresh him with some of your magic? You must be eager to use it again! I'd offer you some of my water, but I'm sure you've had your fill!
*YG drains his hip-flask.*
After that feral child... after he... put an end to me in the Battle, I woke up in the Wolf's Howl Inn. That injury to my eye had gone. My memories of the Battle are patchy, and I've been trying to pick up details of what happened to the other contestants. There's been a lot of gossip.
I believe they were all transported back out of the arena as they 'died' - except perhaps the mechanical man, if he counts. Lord Fear is back in the Dungeon. Sylvester Hands has been spotty... I mean, spotted, around Wolfenden. FrightKnight and Lady Morgan de Chaos ran off after reappearing and haven't been seen since. Skiprazor died in some kind of fight. Tom Troughton vanished in a magical confrontation. Ursula I've heard no tales of, I'm sorry to say - no pun intended. You, Sir, are the first former contestant with whom I've been... reunited.
I can only assume that the Battle was some kind of collective dream, with no real purpose, except for the gamesmasters. Unless you, having outlived me there, know more?

But of course, Mr Robin, if you would just hold still...
Spellcasting: P-I-C-K-M-E-U-P
*A feeling of wellbeing spreads itself over Robin*
Despite its rather flippant name, one thinks you will find this an excellent curing spell.
Spellcasting: D-R-Y
And that has recovered your clothes. Now dear sir there is the question of reward. One offers you the use of one's calling name: Mal-... pardon sir, one has recently changed it. One's calling name is now Splendour, to be called three times to summon one's aid.
*He listens, frowning to the news of the return from the Battle.*
It would appear that this battle has taken its toll upon both the light and the darkness. One is deeply saddened to hear of Troughton and Miss Ursula's disappearences, one had wondered why our mental link had been severed. One wishes them the very best.
Nevertheless, one is most pleased to see that you live, Young Grimwold. One is afraid that the occasion of your apparent death... *his formal speech can no longer conceal his tension at the memory*... lead to an act of avengement on one's own part. One is certain that the demonspawn which struck you down was no mere child... but even so one regrets the murderous thoughts that came over me at that time. I did not even survive long enough to see if it died as a result. But one does not enjoy the fact that ultimately one played the game as expected.
Indeed one is more alarmed as one thinks on it... for if one did indeed manage to injure that fiend then... surely one may have been the victor... which does lead to the disturbing prospect of the trophy... one doubts it will be benevolent.

*YG is a little worried about Hordriss. His first person pronoun usage is haphazard; and of the three spells he's cast, none of them was in Latin! No doubt his recovery from the Battle will not be a full overnight one.*
You have dealt with malevolence before, both inner and outer. After all, your calling name was never Benefact! We both resisted 'playing the game' for a long time, which is victory in itself. If you do get some kind of trophy, then at least we will know what the fiasco was all about, and can better deal with it. That is partly why I came here - to try and settle some of my memories. But at the same time, Robin and I were hoping to relax. Not that it is your fault you fell into the water.

*Hordriss ponders this... it is true that he has dealt with such things before, which is exactly what worries him. He does not want to tell Young Grimwold of the otherworldly force he felt as he left the battle, the scent of utter evil. Perhaps it is this worry that is so disturbing him [OOC: The odd behaviour is intentional... honest! Although my very poor latin skills don't help!]* *At the back of his mind, Hordriss has a very great fear.... a fear that behind all this is the same diabolic evil which he once served. Could it be that the Gruagach had returned?* *Hordriss snaps out of his reverie and takes the hint* But of course Young Grimwold, one will leave you and Mr Robin to your rest. One apologises for disturbing it, but one was so very glad to see that you were alive... *Another slight break shows in Hordriss' formality here, he quickly covers it* One will attempt to locate the others who were used so cruelly. Farewell, my friends. *Hordriss raises his hands and, without a word, fades from the clearing.* [ModNote: Continued in Wandering.]

Farewell.
*YG looks sheepishly at Robin.*
Was it something I said? I can be a bit... *YG glances at his club* ...blunt, at times. A shame he left so soon, as I think he could have done with relaxing for a bit, but he must be glad to have magic at his disposal again. And we do have the use of his calling name, which will no doubt be helpful - or, at least, you do.
How are you feeling, Robin?

*Robin is bouncing.*
Positively buoyant. Haven't felt better since... well... ever. You?

I'm... I'm really very proud.
And thirsty. I think I'll refill my flask.
*YG steps over to the falling water, and catches enough to fill his hip flask. Walking away, he sips it.*
*Then, on an impulse, he crouches down and dips his head in the water. When enough thoughts have run through it, he throws back his head, catching his breath as the refreshing water trickles off his face, taking some tears with it. It occurs to him that he had dropped his club without realising, before setting out with his flask.*
*YG thinks: whatever that fracas in the Forest was all about, it didn't kill me. And if I'm not dead, I'm alive.*
*He stands up and glances over at the owl.* I thought... I might catch a fish.
*To Robin:* I like... I like this place. Catch. *He throws the flask to his friend.*

*Robin catches - but only just. He needs to drop his sword to do so, as well.*
You know, I'm in the mood for something a little...
*...and he swigs...*
...strong.
I say we celebrate your escape from whatever this game was with a drink in the Crazed Heifer! We were heading for Wolfended anyway, weren't we?...
*...and he points towards the path leading off towards Wolfenden...*
Oh, and thanks. Here's your flask back.

Thank you.
*Retrieving his flask, YG hopes to himself that 'Wolfended' is a mere slip of the tongue by Robin... and not a premonition.*
I haven't been to the Crazed Heifer for a while. There was a jester there whom I didn't find particularly entertaining, for various reasons. But I hear he's left now. I believe he traded in his fol-de-rol for a pair of helmets, or something, and went off to fight cavernwights on an isle somewhere.
I'm not sure that being a pawn who gets swept off a mystical chessboard is any cause for celebration; but risking your life to save a stranger's is.
Do you know the way along the path from here?

*Robin is leading the way...* Well... I... *rustle from bushes* ... ys, of course I do. At least, I know the path to the path and... *rustle...* erm, it's over here, I think... *Ignoring the bushes' unnerving rustling, Robin points to a narrow path through the trees. It looks rather unused, much like an elf path, rather than a purpose-used one, but traversable. A good few metres along there is light, and YG can just about see the unmistakeable flat surface of the path to Wolfenden.* A rather roundabout route, but it works, right? *And, happy once more, Robin bounds ahead, leading YG towards Wolfenden... or so he hopes.* ((OOC: "Wolfended" was deliberate.))
