*Realising that her current inability to speak is becoming an obstacle, Ursula returns to her near-human form. while it lacks the natural weaponry and sheer size of her battle form, it still gives her increased height and muscle mass, and nails long and tough enough to use as weapons in a pinch*
"Hmmmm... I do not know if what magic we have will be capable of breaking through the barriers keeping us prisoner, surely they would not have equiped us with items we could use to escape? Then again, I doubt the Old One will listen to our pleas..."
*Ursula thinks about this for a few minutes, wondering which is the best option. She has little hope that the Old One will even listen to them, especially if he is working for a greater power*
"...perhaps we could find a way to break the barriers. I think we have more chance of that than getting mercy from our captors."

I think, then, that we should make at least a couple of attempts to break the barrier. After all, all these items were given to us to kill each other, and since we've abandoned that, there is no other use for them. Some may be unpredictable, but from what I've seen, they are all powerful.
Then, if that fails, we can look for the Old One, and try and negotiate. He has seen that he can't make us follow his rules, and his enforcer is now no more, thanks to Hordriss - so he may decide to hear us out, in spite of his hidden powers. I must admit, Lord Fear, that violence against the old man is tempting; but I think it should be our last resort.
As long as we act in unison.

Indeed. One wonders whether the Old One anticipated such resolute insurrection when he set the rules of this obscene battle. He has obviously never read Cicero: inter arma enim silent leges. No doubt you appreciate such Roman wisdom, Master Grimwold.
Now, one has studied the map; might one lead us to the border? The eastern border is the closest.
*Hordriss, his vigour regained, strides off, leaving the others to follow. He casts his eye back every so often, mainly to check on Lord Fear, of whom Hordriss is still rather wary.*
*After a while, Hordriss checks his map once more, and stops.*

*YG has developed a slight headache, and is feeling a build-up of annoyance.*
So, we're standing in front of the prison wall, but we can't see it. Better check it's there.
*YG flings the sharpened piece of wood he is holding out in front of him, with great force. [glow=red,2,300]The wood flies onwards as though there is nothing in it's way. There is no indication that the barrier is even there.[/glow] Futile, except that it relieves some of YG's ogrish temper. He tries to re-engage his mind.*
The barrier may have a limited depth... and a limited height. A use for the Grow potion, perhaps? I wonder, also, if we'd have any luck tunnelling underneath.
Then again, spells may offer the best chance. We have SLIDE and CHOICE. Does anyone wish to cast one of them?
*YG and Hordriss hold out their spell scrolls, and one of them is taken...*

*A scroll appears in mid air and hovers temptingly for someone to open it and read it. Lord Fear steps forwards and reads...*
"That's the spell used now, And you could have used it better - We all can see that you, Lord Fear Are an impatient go-getter. You have two choices in this situation - Kill yourselves or fight. The first path will get you nowhere now So the second path is right. The Higher Force is disappointed That you used the spell here. Maybe you would have used it well... If it wasn't for meddling Lord Fear."
*The scroll still hovers for everyone to see*

*The writing changes tauntingly*
"No joke - you used the spell in the wrong situation, and not only have you lost a precious spell but you still don't seem to understand.
Mwahahahahaha..."
*The scroll falls to ashes on the floor*

*Ursula cannot read the scroll, but from the reactions of her companions, she can tell that it does not bode well. with a growl, she shifts back into her battle form, and strikes at the invisible barrier with a defiant roar*

*Seemingly Ursula's paw has touched the barrier because... suddenly Ursula feels slightly...cramped. As if the air was very thick, and difficult to inhale. In horror she realises what she has done as the choking feeling turns to pain, and the shrinking necklace begins to cut into her neck...* [OOC: Am tailing off here to allow someone to roleplay a death since there are several companions around]

Quick, Ursula, drink a potion! You might be able to reverse what's happening!
*YG offers his potions, Spin and Grow.*

*Ursula lets out a choked snarl of fury as she realises what is happening, her claws scrabbling uselessly at her thick neck-fur as she tries to reach the thread*
*A quick glance at the potions is enough to tell her that they will be no help, 'Spin' doesn't sound useful in this situation, and 'Grow' is surely the last thing she wants to do when the necklace is shrinking, unless a quicker death was desired*
*The situation is hopeless. Ursula realises this, and would normally accept it as Gaia's will... except that in this place she dies for the amusement of the 'audience' rather than a worthy cause. With a hoarse bellow of rage, she makes a final lunge at the barrier, striking wildly with her claws in a desperate attempt to break through... or a suicidal wish to make a last stand, however futile it may be.*

*Hordriss is horrified at the onset of Ursula's struggle. He feels the urge to aid her with magic, but remembers immediately that he is powerless - rendered so by the same force that is torturing his companion. He can think of no object within the group that might counteract what is happening to Ursula.*
It must be the barrier - please, everyone, step back. Ursula, do not fight the necklace. You will die with more honour for not giving a violent spectacle to the forces behind this evil!

Contestant #5, Ursula, dead. 3 to go.
