*Young Grimwold cannot help being appalled. He begins to think about himself (knowing, as he does so, what a nasty habit it is). How easy it would have been for him to grow up a killer, like a 'typical ogre', devoid of all feelings but anger and hunger, each blood-letting sharpening his appetite for the next. And no doubt, in any nooks of his mind that ogrishness could not penetrate, he too would concoct moral excuses for his actions, sustaining his conscience. But killing is killing.
YG considers Zeytan's description of Leytan.*
He sounds unstoppable. To have those powers... there must be more to it than simple biological heritage. And when a man is invincible to that degree, how can he really know danger, how can he know what it's like to face a challenge?
*YG is suddenly reminded of his own brother, Ergo. Still lost somewhere.*
And yet, he is your brother. I apologise, I didn't mean to... to be so outspoken.

*Zeytan shakes his head*
"If only it were that easy to condem him."
"For as many stories of death that are attached to him, there seem to be an equal number of people who owe their lives to Leytan."
"I could talk for weeks about his killings and yet by the same token I could talk for weeks about the soilders who have been saved from death on the battle feild because Leytan put his own life at risk to make sure they got back to safty."
"Another week or so talking about the travlers on lonely roads who have been saved from bandit attacks becuse of him. Even when Atlantis was colapsing around him Leytan went back into the prison in which he had been held captive to save a young warden, one of the ones who been his gaurds, who had been traped by a falling beam, It was this young man who told us he was safe."
*Zeytan takes a sip of his wine.*
"He's a contradiction in terms on one hand he can kill with out mercy or pity and on the other he risks his own life to save others. Most of the times he had been caught it's been because he's gone back to help someone who's been wounded or such like."
"Its his pilosphy that i find hardes't to comprehend. He denies the existance of Good and Evil them selves. He claims there is no diffrence between either. And yet he abhores coruption, trechery and has the utmost respect for women."
"And his love of nature...he would have made a great teacher of nature had he not chose the mercerny life."

*YG sits in puzzled silence. He wants to understand Leytan: a man who uses violence with purpose and apparently can live with himself in doing so, just as YG has so often aspired to. And yet what Zeytan is telling him is so confusing.
But that's not all that's puzzling YG. Zeytan seemed to reply not to what YG said out loud, but what he was thinking. Perhaps this is evidence of the considerable Atlantean psychic abilities that YG learned about from Captain Nemanor. Or maybe Zeytan is simply being intuitive, showing empathy towards someone who is grappling with ideas that he himself, as Leytan's brother, must have struggled with so hard in the past.
Meanwhile, Lanesra has been edging closer and closer, attempting to listen in. She soon realises that the conversation is about Leytan. Has she heard correctly - is the Atlantean gentleman defending Leytan? Did he just say that Leytan has 'the utmost respect for women'? He didn't when he threatened to take a knife to Slevela's ears! She simply cannot hold her tongue over such a remark. Lanesra steps up to the table.*
Lanesra: *Mutters quickly* And yet his nickname is the Ice Killer, not the Ice Helper. *Clears her throat and smiles* Sorry to interrupt you, Sir, would you care for some more of that *she realises what Zeytan's been drinking, and frowns briefly* Winterian wine, or perhaps more food for your pet?

*Zeytan shakes his head sadly.*
"Do I condme his more bloody actions? Yes miss I do. But the fact remains even if it is only by a perentage of blood, he is my brother. And the facts remain that Leytan seems to posess a Jekle and Hyde personality."
*Looks at Malark.*
"Yes Could Malark have some more bread please."

Lanesra: Leytan's your brother? Oh. I... My humble apologies. Bread. Right away.
*Lanesra hurries off, looking anxious. It's uncertain whether she feels guilty about her comment, or worried that Zeytan will pass it on to his sibling...
Meanwhile, YG is intrigued by Zeytan's last remark.*
Jekyll and Hyde? If I may ask, who are they? Atlanteans too?

"Hmmmmm. Oh no. No there characters from a book I once read, Don't know which realm it came from. It was one of a shipment of litriture that Nemanor once brought to Atlantise from other realms."
"Quite fasinating. It's about a man called Jekyll who creates a potion but the side effect is it brings out his evil side. This alter ego is called Hyde."
"And that in a way is Leytan. Only with out the need of a potion one side good the other side evil."

*YG feels momentarily flushed with unease, but does not let it show. This sounds all too familiar: he thinks of his own struggle against his ogre side, the everpresent dread that beast will overcome man. And yet even if YG is not keen to accept the ogrishness within, he does at least accept the inner conflict itself. Perhaps Jekyll didn't... perhaps Leytan doesn't?*
Yet you say that he doesn't believe in good and evil. Does that mean he doesn't see himself as being in conflict, even though his actions demonstrate it to everyone else?

*Zeytan shakes his head.*
"He dosen't seem to see anything odd about his behavior at all."
"He dosen't regarde it as unatural, evil or conflicting. He see's it as moraly pure. His twisted morality is the one thing that......for lack of a better term alows him some sort of redemption."
"In all the time. I've never know him to nor has he ever Killed someone Just to see them fall. He's always said and I belive he's serious."
"That if that ever happans he'll throw his sword down the nearest well or mine shaft and retire to the wastelands of Winteria."

*As he hears more about Leytan, YG's emotions conflict. On the one hand, he feels almost jealous of Leytan, operating as he does with such conviction and self-discipline, not to mention success. On the other hand, in spite of all the blood that the man has spilt, YG is feeling a twinge of sympathy.*
He must be a lonely man.
*Zyssa brings Malark's bread to the table. She also has a flagon of ale for YG.*
Zyssa: If Owen makes complaint about you not being on duty, I will tell him that you're keeping a close watch over the crab, and remind him about that fish.
*Zyssa winks. YG blushes a little at the unexpected gesture of kindness from his colleague. Meanwhile, Bethsemane, the Crazed Heifer's often-invisible cat, is sniffing around Malark.
The piper plays 'Chantilly Lace'.*

*Zeytan ponders this statement by Yong Grimwold for a few moments.* "Yes, Yes, he must be." "Although I've heard rummors that he did have a long running love affair with a Nobel women from The Netherworlds during his time there in the civil War. Mind you since he's now a wanted War Crimminal in that realm he's probaley never going to see her again." *pauses* "And last I heard he's been working in partnaship with other mercenries as of late. In fact he's supposedly in the are at the moment working with a Free lance assasain. Weather that is correct or not I know not."

*As Zeytan talks, YG thinks again of himself; of how, in spite of being a creature that many would shun on word alone, he has managed to form partnerships, and productive ones at that. He thinks of FrightKnight and the forest forge, of Robin at the Dunnfalls, of Tom Troughton and the recent fish debacle. So even violent loners can make friends. Maybe Leytan isn't so hard to understand after all. And yet the idea of a romantic attachment... to YG, it seems impossible. Then again, would he even want one? After the last time, even though it was so long ago, would he want to risk himself, to endanger the other? He wonders how it was that Leytan found himself able to let someone in, and once again, feels pangs of jealousy, like smoke rising from the ever-burning fire of his insecurity. Enough introspection. Zeytan's tone of voice, as he mentions that his brother may be in the area, suggests much to YG about the difficulty of their relationship.* So are you expecting to hear from him soon? And perhaps also hoping not to? *Meanwhile, close to Malark, a soft purring seems to be emanating from thin air. The mire-crab has an admirer.*

*Zeytan turns this two pronged question over in his mind and tries to forumulate a completet accurate and truthfull responce. Did he want to see his brother again. Part of him would deffinatly like to make some sort of peace if only a half peace with his brother. And yet another part wished for Leytan to live the life he had chose for himself and leave him alone to do the same.*
*Was it hate of Leytan's lifestyle, moral indignation?? Or was it just a selfish desiere not to have the Death, Carnage, missery and bloodshed that stalked Leytan, not to have all that come intrudeing into his world.*
"In ansrew to your first question I very much dought I would hear from him willingly on Leytan's part. However he has apprantly set up base in The Wolfs Howl Inn were I now hold permenat residencey."
"As to your second question though. I do not feel able to give you an honnest ansrew. I of course would like to make some Peace with my brother."
"And yet how dose a person even a brother look past the fact that Leytan is a wanted War Criminal?? And it dosen't take much imagination or grasp of law to know what kinds of actions reuslt in those kinds of charages. I grant you unproven at the moment but there's no smoke with out fire."
"And given he served in The ranks of Scareye's Dark Leigon at various points during The Netherworld Civil War. As well as carrying out some un-savory tasks for the other side. Adn was a key agent of The Alzan Empier during its wars of conquest.....Well that alone is damming given the reputations of both forces."
"And how do you alow yourself tog et close to someone who has at least several death sentences in absenitia on his head, and who may one day die on the gallows."
*Shuders slightly*
"Or live up to their word and take there own life rather then die by a rope."
"Or be lynched by an angry mob or knifed in the back by some bounty hunter."
*Makes sure nobody else is lisening and then says quietly so only Young Grimwold can hear.*
"Leytan has a 500.000 Gold sovering bounty on his head. Imagin what kind of life he must lead with that hanging over him?"

[OOC: Sorry for the delay in posting. I was checking some old threads, in order to be certain as to whether YG has come across the names 'Scareye' and 'Alzans' before. ;D] *YG wonders why a wanted man such as Leytan would choose somewhere as accessible as Wolfenden's most renowned hostel for his base. Maybe on some level he needs the attention, to have his nickname fill the air and be in a position to overhear it. And no doubt somebody like Leytan could set up a base behind the guardhouse and still not get caught. The names that Zeytan mentions are familiar to YG, if only vaguely. 'Scareye' takes him back to that chilling night in the Forest of Dunn, at the Forge, where some demonic entity presented the form of "the Dark Lord Scareye" to scare Ringmasterrob. As for the Alzan Empire... Tom Troughton mentioned "Alzans" in connection with his exile when YG and Robin encountered him on the path into Wolfenden, but he teleported away without explaining. Was Tom an Alzan himself? And what was the Netherworld? These were topics for YG to learn more about at a later date. YG is unexcited by the very large amount of gold that Zeytan mentions. Wealth has never seemed that relevant to him: his upbringing as a Dungeon dweller, and a Grimwold, sheltered him from monetary concerns. He could recall several occasions when his mother became especially annoyed at his father for coming home with bars of gold and silver, rather than an animal: "We can't eat bloomin' gold, no matter what that Fatilla the 'Un's been tellin' ya! Even Festus won't touch it, will ya, Festus?"... and so on. No doubt 500,000 gold sovereigns could buy a great deal of status in the realm... but you can't eat status, nor drink it, nor read it, nor sleep on it. The kind of power that gold could finance was not the kind that YG wanted; the sort of contentment that it could fund was an illusion that would not fool YG for very long. But how might Leytan feel? Not about having that much gold, but about knowing that he is the sole obstacle between it and any number of money-grabbing adversaries?* Of course, I do not know Leytan as well as you - that-that is to say, I don't know him at all - but from what you've told me of him, I can't help but imagine that he finds such a bounty rather flattering. An endorsement, perhaps, of his... remarkable way of life, rather than a threat to it?

*Zeytan turns this over in his head.*
"Hmmmmmm, yes, yes I would imagin you might be right. It probaley feeds his need for a feeling of self worth and of being someone."
"It's not an easy life being a half breed. Espechialy in an anciant culture so proud of their heriteige and bloodline like the Atlantian culture was when he was born."
*Notices Lanesra is eaves dropping again pretneding to clean a table. "Probaley told by the owner to keep an eye on me due to my conections with Leytan" he guessed.*
*Chuckles at YG's comment about not knowing Leytan.*
"Belive me master Grimwold Leytan is once seen never forgoton."
*Turns and catches Lanesra Looking at them.*
"Is't that right miss?? Because something tells me you've had the 'pleshure' of meeting him before now."

*Lanesra is embarrassed at being caught eavesdropping, but only a little. If someone like the Ice Killer is lurking in Wolfenden again, then it's her business as much as anyone's. Perhaps his brother would agree. She steps up to the table.* Lanesra: Yes, he's been in. Got in a fight with another customer. The other bloke had a crossbow, and I thought Leytan was done for, but sudden as you like, 'e 'ad some sort of whip made out of ice. Gave the other bloke a right hiding, not to mention frostbite, and sent 'im on 'is merry way. I fainted clean away with the shock of it all.
