[ModNote: Continued from Training!] *Young Grimwold and Robin arrive at the Dunnfalls. The combination of rocks and water, steadfast and transigent, fixed and free, gives YG food for thought. What is the better set of traits: to be a rock, reliable and enduring, yet stubborn and inflexible; or to be water, refreshing and liberated, but unpredictable and uncommitted? He wonders how 'rocky' he is, and how 'watery' Robin might be. He takes a breath, and rather than looking inward, or around, he looks at Robin.* Is this place how you remembered it to be? I don't imagine that it changes much.

*Robin walks forward, gesticulating vaguely as is his way.*
Oh, this has always been one of my favourite places. I'm not sure why, but it's quite peaceful despite the roaring noise of the water.
*He thrusts his sword into a spout of water completely gratuitously, for no apparent reason other than the fact that he can.*
I don't know why, it's kind of... calming here... shall we stop here for a while? We don't need to go directly to Wolfenden.

*YG feels a lot more comfortable approaching the Dunnfalls with company. But rather than treat Robin as a distraction, he decides to be more open.*
I almost jumped into the Dunnfalls... during the Battle Royale. But I saw someone fall, and changed my mind. It doesn't seem so bad, coming back to it with you. If I looked hard enough, I could probably find the spot where I stood, or the grove that the mechanical warrior burned away with his light beam. Up there somewhere. But I'd rather not. As you say, it's calming, at least today. I'm content to linger here for a while.
Have you ever been fishing here?

*a tawny owl flutters past from the village and into the trees not far from the pair*
Who? Who?

*Robin has been listening to the tales of the Battle Royale rather more intently than before, and it's a couple of seconds before he is brought out of his reverie enough to answer Young Grimwold's question.*
F... fishing? No, I've never been fishing, my friend. Never in my life... why, have you? Is this a good spot?

[ModNote: Continued from Last Man Standing.] *In the distance, there is a faint rustling sound, although it is almost impossible to hear over the crashing of the falls.* *As YG and Robin continue their conversation, they do not notice at first a bedraggled old man on the far side of the falls basin, stepping towards the edge.* *Only as they are distracted by the tawny owl and turn do they notice the figure, teetering on the edge of the falls.* *Until he sees the red streaks in his hair, YG doesn't realise that it is Hordriss who appears about to step off the edge, and plunge into the force of the falls*

*YG is flattered to hear Robin address him as a 'friend'. How has he earned that title so quickly?*
No, I've never fished here, even though I've heard some of the children in the village boasting about their catches. I tried fishing in wellways a few times in the Dungeon, when I was Younger Grimwold, but never had much luck. And whaling with Captain Nemanor was never much fun.
*YG hears the owl.*
From wailing to 'owling...
*Then he notices the old man.*
[OOC: I visualised the Dunnfalls as a waterfall, with YG and Robin at the bottom, as hinted at my YG's reference to 'up there somewhere', rather than a Niagara Falls-type basin with the duo at the top. Still, no big problem.]
Oh my - that's Hordriss. The mage. He was still in the Battle when I died. Hordriss! HORDRISS! ...He can't hear. I hate having to do this, especially when I'm trying to relax. Cover your ears please, Robin.
HORDRISS!!

[OOC: So did I! Hordriss was on the edge of the basin at the bottom of the waterfall, planning to drown rather than fall a long way....!]
*The shout reverberates around the waterfall, and Hordriss hears. In the first occasion for a long time, he feels something like joy rise up within him. They are not dead! It was an illusion!*
Young....
*In his excitement, the old mage slips on the stones and overbalances, toppling forward into the foaming water. Fortunately he is far enough away from the falling water to be crushed, but he is soon sweapt under....*
[OOC: This is not a character death! Hordriss is now unconscious, so if you could rescue him I'd be most grateful!]

*YG's stentorian shout has allowed some (but not all) of his ogrish temperament free rein. Whilst he doesn't feel violent as such, he is in something that bears no resemblance to a good mood. Although worried about the impression he'll make on Robin, he can't control it.*
Oh what does he think he's doing? I said 'Hordriss', not 'fall in the water'! I would've expected his magic to have returned after the Battle, but apparently it hasn't, seeing as he's on the verge of drowning. He still owes me money for a room at the inn in town, so I'd rather not see the old fool die; but I've already helped one unconscious person today. It feels like Fate's laughing at me.
Would you mind saving him, Robin? You're probably a better swimmer than I. Plus, when he does get his marbles back, he's not a bad chap to have in your debt.

*While YG was distracted by watching Hordriss fall in, Robin has already thrown off his belt, hat, and sheathed sword.*
I'm already onto it, buddy. Rescuing is what I do.
*...And he takes an agile leap forwards and springs into the falls' basin. He takes two powerful strokes with his arms, disappears completely below the surface, and opens his eyes.
The world around him is blurry. There are fish, but very few; the larger shapes appear to be clumps of weed or logs which have been swept under. A large, indistinct shape seems somewhat anomalous, though. With strength that amazes even himself, Robin skims himself through the water at great speed.
The shape is indeed Hordriss, although he's not moving, which can never be a good sign. Robin's air is about to run out, but he won't let that distract him. Without hesitation, he reaches out a hand, and grabs hold of the unconscious mage's robes.
Okay, now for the hard part...*

*YG watches blurred shapes move below the water. He is rather impressed at Robin's bravery. It puts his earlier efforts - running over to check on someone who came round anyway - into perspective. He feels guilty, and calms down a bit - especially when he realises that he may be about to lose a friend, if Robin gets caught under the water.*
Come on, Robin! That's great!
*It occurs to YG that rescuing Hordriss like this is, in a sense, fishing for trout.*
Haul him in!

*Robin can't hear exactly what YG is saying, but he can hear him saying something... panicking, wondering if it's a danger warning, he frantically kicks off from the bottom of the falls basin and propels himself as fast as he can towards the shimmering surface. Hordriss' arm is clutched tightly in his left hand, his right pulling himself upwards...*
*a few seconds pass...*
*Robin's head breaks the surface of the falls basin, followed a few seconds by Hordriss' head. Robin flashes a grin at YG and swims forwards, dragging the silent Hordriss with him. Upon reaching the bank, he is careful to make sure the limp form of Hordriss is safely on dry land (aided by YG) before he vaults out himself. Despite obvious attempts to look as if this were nothing, Robin is clearly exhausted, but pleased with himself.*
Nothing like a good struggle for life to really get the adrenaline going... eh?
*His attention is drawn to Hordriss properly for the first time. He isn't moving at all. In fact, Robin isn't sure if he's even breathing. He exhanges a nervous glance with YG...*

*As YG helps Robin bring Hordriss out of the water, he feels as if he himself has plunged into the Dunnfalls, as admiration for Robin, and pride that this gentleman sees him as friendship material, washes over him. He's already overwhelmed Robin once today, and decides to be reserved in his praise...*
You did very well there.
*...Resolving to give Robin due adulation later on. For now, he exchanges a nervous glance with Robin, over the red-clad jetsam.*
He must be in some kind of healing trance. Yes, that'd be it - a kind of magical convalescence.
*Hordriss remains motionless.*
Do we... do we give him the kiss of life?

*Hordriss has remained motionless until this point, drifting in and out of consciousness... this is until he hears YG utter the phrase 'kiss of life'. With a start he tries to rise, and coughs up a great deal of water. After several minutes wheezing and gasping. The old man looks at YG.*
One is infinitely pleased to see that you did not perish in the monstrous battle Young Grimwold... however, not quite pleased enough for that.
*He notices Robin for the first time*
And you sir, your somewhat damp condition suggests that one is to thank you for ones rescue. One is in your debt.
*With each 'one', Hordriss seems to regain some of his strength and composure. It is only then that he notices his muddied and dampened state. Unsteadily, he gets to his feet...*
If you would excuse me for a moment gentlemen.
*He moves behind some bushes*
Spellcasting: V-A-L-E-T
*He emerges, his red robes shining, his coiffeur immaculate. Only his still-unsteady gait suggests his recent ordeal*
Ah, much better. It appears that one's magic has returned after the end of the Battle. But tell me, *he addresses both* do we know what happened to the other poor souls who were pulled into that arena?
