"Who fancies a bit of entertainment anyways?" shouts Motley...
*The crowd turn to face him with raised eyebrows. One reaches for his tomato, Motley spots it quickly and dives to his left to avoid it*

"Anyway, why did tigger look down the toilet?"
The crowd wait impatiently
"To look for pooh!"

*A goblin at the back laughs long and hard. There are puzzled looks immediately around him*
*Towards the front, mixtures of threatening growls and yawns can be heard*

Post by Young Grimwold on Feb 26, 2004 14:38:12 GMT
[ModNote: YG was last seen in Time To Rest at the Wolf's Howl Inn.] [OOC: This is just a post to explore YG's character, not a post that's intended to set off a new plot or redirect this thread.] *Young Grimwold is passing by the tavern, and decides to look in, to see whether Yasuke and Hobgoblin, his drinking colleagues from before, are still within. But from the doorway, he sees the jester. His eyes widen, his shoulders become tense, and his throat tightens. What is he doing here?* *A voice inside YG screams 'That's him! Motley! The creep who stole Mellisandre from you! Go up there and rip him apart!!' Only when this voice is hoarse, does another one, quieter yet sinister, speak up. 'No. That's the gentleman who picked up the pieces after you hurt Melly so badly, you unforgivable, noxious, ogre b*st*rd.'* *After his adventures in the Forest, this is more than YG can take. He never knew Motley that well; but the thought of seeing him around Wolfenden, having to wonder what he did or didn't do with Melly, makes him feel trapped and sick. It feels as if all the living he did away from the Dungeon, the tapestry of experiences he worked so hard to stitch, has been unravelled and discoloured in a second. And it's not just threads he imagines drifting through his fingers - it's Mellisandre's hair. YG dashes away.* [OOC: YG was only in the doorway of the Crazed Heifer for a moment; it's unlikely that anyone saw him. Motley certainly didn't.] *Moments later, a few of the folk who are out and about in Wolfenden hear a kind of splitting, splintering sound; but they decide to ignore it and carry on with their business. Round behind the Crazed Heifer, where no-one can see him, a crazed figure has torn a sapling out of the ground, and, trying not to sob or roar, he is ripping the trunk apart.* *YG stands still, for a long time. When he has calmed down, he tidies up the mess of leaves and bark he has made, whispers apologies into the air, and heads for home.* To sleep, perchance to eat - Aye, there's the grub. [OOC: Glenn, I hope you understand that this is simply how my roleplay character might react to your roleplay character, based on the information in YG's profile. It's not how I would react to you! I will remove the post if there's any confusion.] [ModNote: Continued in A talk, out in the village.]

[ModNote: Continued from A Strange Ritual.] *Cel enters the tavern after deciding not to risk panicking the village with the knowledge that something funny is surrounding Deal's' death' There is an air of tension in the tavern, but she puts it down to her own disappointment over the ritual failing. Motley is performing as ever, nothing seems out of the ordinary.* *goes up to the serving wench* Ale please. Have you heard of anyone offering paid work recently? *the serving wench hardly considers the question before shaking her head concentrating on pouring a jug out* Please, let me know if you hear of anything that comes up. *pays a silver extra as a tip incase it 'jogs' the maid's memory*

*The maid gives a half hearted smile and slips into the back room behind the bar, and Cel glimpses the large figure of a man behind the door. Possibly the owner of the tavern. Murmured voices flit through the air and Cel catches the words 'maybe', 'small fee' and 'bring back'*

*Cel looks around to see if anyone is watching the exchange too closely. After deciding they aren't, she takes a sip of ale and lowers her cloak hood, trying to pick up snippets of conversation*
*after a brief time in which she hasn't been able to hear enough to really pick anything up, the maid returns to the front of the bar*
Maid: I may have summit for yer miss. You interested, like?
Cel: Let me hear your terms first please, madam but otherwise we may certainly have something to offer each other.

[OOC: all is sorted. ONWARDS! ;D]
*The tavern owner lumbers over, sweating heavily and leans on the bar*
TO: You want work, Love? I got something for you. *lowers voice* I've got me a stone. Precious it is - Aldrite. Passed down to me from me Pap. Some bugger thiefed it from me the other day. 'Pletely ransacked it off me. I want you ter fetch it back for me, and to er...dispose, so to speak, of the robbing get that took it off me.
*licks his lips*
What do you say? 50 silver pieces now, and another hundred when you bring it back. What do you say?

Sir, I suggest you keep your voice down or that we adjourn to somewhere more private for this discussion.
*lowers her voice*
Do you have any idea of the identity of this thief? Or a brief description of him?
And the stone? from the little I know of such things, it is a hard material, slightly warm to the touch and a red colour with black streaks? I can probably identify it, but does it have any distinguishing marks?

TO: You'll know when yer've gorrit. You seem to know enough for a young lass. Anyways I can't go meself cos it'll look suspicious, like. That's why we talk here. No-one'll be listenin'. Here...
*he hands her a small pebble*
I had me stone bugged by some mage. Ye can track it with this. Look at it. Go on, close, like...
*Cel look close to see a mist creeping from the pebble's surface. She looks surprised*
You see it, eh? Its a tracking thing. When the Aldrite stone is near, the smokey stuff comes out more and goes after it. Not noticeable, like. Tobbacco-y. It'll let you find the beggar ok, scept it doesn't go straight to the stone. Just points you.
*lowers his voice*
Now if you're intersted, you go out there and fetch this thieving get and do away with him, and bring me the stone. You clear with that? And don't breathe a word of this to no-one.
*slides a bag of silver coins temptingly onto the table*

*muses out loud (but not so as draw attention)*
You effectively want me to perform a planned assassination as opposed for going through the guild.
Aldrite is a very unusual stone from what I have heard, not many people must know you have one. It makes sense not asking an organisation to do it. I'm going to need a lot of supplies for this if I am to perform this as effectively as I hope.
The payment sounds fair, maybe 75 up front though as I do have a lot to prepare and a 50% deposit isn't unreasonable if you can manage it. You can pay some of it in gems of a similar value if it is easier.
And what is your name, sir, so I can shake your hand over our names on this deal. I am Celánia as you may know. And you are?
